We were staying in one of about 30 trullos (traditional round stone cottages) in Alberobello and breakfast was a five minute walk away. The trullo was delightful, not large but big enough, with a comfortable bed, small table and 2 chairs and an en-suite shower room. The only issue (not that anything could have been done about it) was that there wasn't any outside space to enjoy the warm sunny weather we were enjoying, although in the end I did take a chair out and sit outside the door to read in the sunshine. There was a good buffet breakfast with delicious croissants; the only problem was that there were two steep stone steps down to negotiate - I have bad knees and somehow managed to stumble and fall; the staff were very helpful and I did manage to get into the breakfast room (down another half dozen internal steps but at least there was a handrail). By the next morning my knee had stiffened up and become very painful so I did not attempt going to breakfast again; my husband brought me a 'take-away'. So a handrail by the stone steps would be helpful if there is no way of providing step-free access.
Fortunately I had done the walking tour of Alberobello before my fall, including up to the trullo church, so we spent the next couple of days driving around the area and to the coast and my knee gradually began to ease.
We were very lucky with the weather and it was a brilliant time to visit as it was quiet and easy to park near our trullo - very busy in summer , no doubt.
