โLiked the fact the welcome by reception was pleasant and check in was easy.
Hotel location is great and easy to find with free parking in the hotel car park.
Free WiFi is a bonus.
Only negative I could find was the poorly performing coffee machine in the bar area next to the restaurant.
The cappuccino setting only gave half a cup.
It would be nice to have the option of a cup of coffee or a mug of coffee.โ
โExcellent cooked to order breakfast and a good selection of wines and champagnes at very reasonable prices. Room was clean and comfortable with crisp sheets and comfy pillows. Great for a short stay.โ
โStayed at the Coat & Bear while visiting Highclere Castle. I had a room with 2 beds and it was very spacious. The staff was very nice and the food at the pub was delicious. The town of Newbury is very nice and walkable and the hotel is only about a 10-15 min walk to the Newbury train station. I would definitely stay here again. โ
โWe loved the features throughout the building. The beams, low ceilings, uneven floors...really kept the character of the building. Rooms were nice albeit a bit strange having the shower in the room and not in the ensuite but good use if available space given grade 2 listed building regulations.โ
โA really nice overnight stay and dinner at The Swan / Bel and Dragon. The building is delightful - full of beams and historical atmosphere but very well maintained. The bar was certainly very well patronised and appears popular with locals while most of the 9 rooms appeared to be occupied, based on the numbers at breakfast. โWe had a lovely stay!!!! The room was spotless, beautifully decorated with all.the amenities and added extras you could wish for!! The pub itself was lovely - clean with friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Two nice outdoor seating areas, and the beer garden itself was fully enclosed - great for dogs and kids. Hotel and pub were dog friendly. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice of hot and cold offerings! Would highly recommend and will definitely stay again!โ
