“This is an old rooming house that has seen better days, say around 1910. Perhaps it is better in summer when one can have windows open, but the apartment stank of mildew. The electricity is on a meter and one must put coins in to keep it going. In winter they grant a base of a few pounds of electricity per day, but this seems a very out of date system. Finally, the shower did not function. This rooming house was just about the only option for those wishing for a room in Port Erin at the time...

“We had a very pleasant one night stay in Douglas at The Claremont Hotel. Booking two rooms. We arrived early and were able to store our luggage at reception prior to check in. We parked our car over the road with free parking. The ocean view room was beautifully clean & tidy. The king bed was super comfy and spacious. “We had a seaview room that had a great view with a coffee table and two chairs in the window, but in general the room was a bit tired with flaking paint and the like. The shower was good. Sink taps only just reached the bowl. Toilet ok but seat was a bit loose and was dirty. However, after telling reception it was cleaned immediately and properly too. Bath sides clad in ply wood.
