"This is a cracking flat within a short walk of Dumfries town centre. From the outside, the flats don’t look too inspiring, but it’s clearly been renovated recently and it’s been done really nicely. The two rooms are pretty much identical doubles, and the living room/kitchen is a good size. Nice views of the river from most rooms, and a lovely small balcony coming off the main living area. "The hotel is very nice, with lovely rooms and beautiful surroundings. The staff went above and beyond to be helpful, although they often had to juggle multiple roles at once, which sometimes made them difficult to find. Overall, I had a very pleasant stay, and if I return to Castle Douglas, I would happily stay here again."

"The hotel and setting were fantastic. The dinner menu and food were excellent. While a full breakfast was offered we opted for the continental breakfast which was very ordinary. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable but the room's furnishing were sparse. There were no outlets on either side of the bed which can be a minor inconvenience if use your phone as your bedside clock and still need to charge it. All said, the character of the hotel and the friendly staff made this a perfect stop."

Hotel is perhaps a little tired and in need of some refurbishment but rooms clean, beds comfortable and good shower, ideal for golf trip accommodation and reasonably priced. Only thing to watch out for is my room was next to the kitchen extractor fan that comes on at 7am so don’t expect a lie in if you are in room 6"

"My friend and I spent Wednesday night there, and received a VERY friendly welcome from a nice lady at the reception desk. Unfortunately, there are no lifts and the stairs are rather steep and spiral too, which as two elderly men with walking sticks we found quite hazardous with our luggage. When we got to our room, which was on the first floor, the light in the shower room and loo was broken, resulting in complete darkness with the door shut. I went back and spoke to the lady who had welcomed us and her surprise at the light not working seemed 100% genuine and she apologised profusely and said she would "get it fixed". Then she very quickly and efficiently got us moved to another room, also on the first floor, which was absolutely perfect. I would recommend this hotel for its cleanliness and friendliness but disabled people need to be aware of the stairs."
