fungi and lichen Walk in Roslin Glen
Walled garden, Hawthornden. Beyond the depths of Roslin Glen, a gorge cut into the Midlothian plateau by the North Esk. Not easy to photograph the wooded gorge in midsummer.

Cottages at Hawthornden
Barley field at Midfield The trees conceal the valley of the River North Esk, and the north eastern end of the Pentland Hills are in the distance.
Old parkland, Polton. The North Esk emerges from the gorges into what was shown by the OS as parkland, but appears to be in transition to naturally seeded woodland. Taken from the old branch railway to Polton.
