“Basically, everything works at the Mayan. Staff are friendly, rooms are clean with well equipped kitchens, and while it’s not in the least bit luxurious, it’s very nice. Reaching for just a couple of small complaints, there’s a bad odor on the lane outside the only entry/exit, and you have to knock on the window at the entrance if you want the water turned on so that you can rinse the sand from your feet. “The staff was absolutely wonderful. We did not have hot water for a day or two (happens often on the island) and when we notified the staff, they were immediately responsive. Zero complaints about the hospitality overall. If you are looking for 5 star quality accommodations, you may be disappointed, but this is no shade on this operation. “The property itself was beautiful but unfortunately at this time of year (early May) there was a lot of sargassum so we did not enjoy the resort's beach. The pool was a nice sub. The food at the local restaurants in San Pedro were better than the resort's restaurant but it was convienent and decent.
