For a beautiful traditional tiny hotel this is it. Room blew our minds. Finest amenities and a very good but busy restaurant on the ground floor. Could not recommend this hotel higher.

It was so interestng and our room was lovely - a touch of Old Japan. They are converting the downstairs bedroom with the garden and pool into part of the restaurant. It is quirky and quaint.

Not a hotel I would book again.
I don't think it was worth the price (a ridiculously high price) paid for. Concept is good, but the execution is very flawed. My room is on the ground floor, right behind reception, and also right beside the restaurant area. Walls are thin so I could hear the kitchen being prepared + smell all the smells from the kitchen + hear guests dining and chatting away through the walls, not to mention everything that happens at reception also. I could also hear what goes on in the upstairs room. To add further to that, I heard rats/mice running around and fighting during the night. Staff are very nice, but seem a bit lost on how to properly run the place. The poor girl is both the receptionist and waitress in the restaurant.The housekeeping guy also forgot some items in the room when my husband and I checked in and then forgot to take his cleaning items out after he finished cleaning. The only thing that is good is the location. And the hotel only has 3 rooms!

Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. The location is perfect but as you would expect because it’s centrally located, there is a bit of street noise into the late night. Breakfast was great 👍 the room was fabulous especially the large bathtub. Very nice amenities.

Ryokan Royalty
I read the reviews before booking and they did not lie- this Ryokan exceeds expectations! If you are not interested in a traditional, sleep on the floor Ryokan, then this is the place for you. We felt like royalty in a suite filled with opulent fabrics and beautiful antiques. The four post canopy bed was both super comfortable and romantic! The outdoor deep soak tub in a private courtyard with a red-eyed dragon fountain enhanced the ambience even more. The Wagu steak restaurant in the front of the property offered a nice relaxing dinner upon our arrival- we were lucky because the next day there was a line out the door! There is much to see within walking distance and short cab rides away. Reserve the Ryu room and enjoy this very special place!

Wonderful little place to stay!
This was a very cute, wonderfully decorated place to stay. The staff was super friendly and helpful, especially when our outdoor bathroom didn't fill up properly. Speaking of which, the outdoor bathroom in the private little back patio was so great! We really loved the decor, the lighting, and the location of our room. It was great talking to the girl who works there--she's super sweet, friendly, and helpful. The little restaurant at the front of the ryokan is really, really good. They provide Western or Japanese style breakfasts in the morning, but I recommend also trying lunch or dinner there for the Kobe beef. It is SO good. Overall a great stay, and great value. I definitely recommend this little hotel!

Parfait
Petit Ryokan fort luxueux et très bien situé. Le petit déjeuner japonais est très bien. Le western style est ok, mais pas plus. Dommage qu’il n’y a pas de TV dans la chambre. Mais une tablette est là.

Beautiful, welcoming stay
We were greeted by a lovely female staff member who went far out of her way to make sure we were always comfortable. Our room was huge, luxurious and clean. Close to the main shopping area of Kyoto and walking distance from Gion. We had a really lovely time!

Lovely stay!
We had a lovely stay at the hotel. Unfortunately the outside bath didn’t work but instead of that being an issue they quickly moved us to another room which had a jacuzzi bath and were extremely apologetic - it was totally not their fault! Thanks for the stay!

Drei Zimmer über Steakhaus
Drei Zimmer über einem japanischen Steakhaus als Ryokan zu bezeichnen ist schon sehr gewagt. Das Ganze dann noch zu diesem Preis zu verkaufen ist dreist. Unser Wester-Style-Zimmer ging zur lärmenden Strasse, die Ausdünstungen der darunter liegenden Küche drangen durch jeder Ritze und Tageslicht fällt so gut wie nicht durch die Fenster aus blickdichtem Glas. Die Ausstattung des Zimmers durchaus modern und gelungen. Üblicherweise hat Gastfreundschaft in Ryokans große Bedeutung, wir haben das immer wieder erleben dürfen. In dieser Unterkunft wurde wir vom Betreiber zwar beim Einchecken erwartet, danach haben wir ihn während unserer drei Nächte nie wieder zu Gesicht bekommen und selbst beim Auschecken blieb uns nichts anderes übrig, als den Zimmerschlüssel auf dem Tisch liegen zu lassen. Hier geht es nicht um das Wohl des Gastes, sondern um den Geldbeutel des Betreibers, der sich blendend darauf versteht seine Unterkunft zu vermarkten. Allerdings erzeugen die wunderbaren Fotos des "Ryokans" eine Erwartung, die der Realität in keiner Weise standhalten. Auch ist mir völlig unverständlich, wie die Unterkunft zu ihrer guten Einstufung kommt.

Best kept secret in Japan
This small hotel is hands down one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in. From its design, to the attentive staff, every detail was thoughtful and luxurious. We especially loved the lighting options, the huge tub, and the amazing massage shower. If anyone is looking for the best place to stay in Kyoto, book this before it fills up. We absolutely loved it!

Amazing staff (very friendly and super helpful in all aspects). Wonderful accommodations (such a comfortable room, packed with all the essentials for foreign travelers). The main thing about this Ryokan is its location, its right in the middle of things. That is a double edged sword, it means it can be a bit noisier as the rooms are part of the place and next to the restaurant etc. On the other hand its really helpful to be able to easily walk many places. The manager speaks English and is very helpful (if you can get him) but the rest of the staff dont really speak English so you are mostly on your own vs a regular hotel - again if you are in a small place like this thats expected etc. Our room was nicely decorated and modern, if a bit unusual in layout, we found it be comfortable but unusual vs all the hotels we stayed in - again not a hotel experience. All in all it was great with the caveats mentioned.

清潔感溢れる作りでした。外観は昔ながらの和風で外人さんには喜ばれると思います。 立地もよく歩いて繁華街を探索できますね。 電車、タクシーで京都を訪れる時にはいいと思います。 自家用車で近くのパーキングを使うと約8000円程の出費となります。

Boutique Hotel in the heart of Kyoto
This hotel is small and friendly. It is downtown Kyoto within walking distance of a galaxy of restaurants, shops, food markets, and clubs. Within 10 minutes cab ride is Higashiyama-ku, rife with temples, shrines, and authentic traditional Japanese neighborhoods. Very nice. There are three rooms in the hotel, ours was well appointed with a large comfortable bed. We had a great time and the staff made our stay memorable.

was rated 4.7 and 4 1/2 Star. I will give 2*. very small , hardly you could find a staff . Room was very dusty, small , not much of air circulation . Not easy to be find, taxi from two diffylocayion :train station and temple had problems to find . no choice on breakfast . We left the hotel after 2 days, had6 days reservation. We told by one staff we will get back full refund, but they only refunded 50%, their policy called for 70%, they even did not

Its a loaction no taxi driver was familiar with.
The most terrible comminication, the receptionist who spoke very little english was the waiter of the restaurat and was unprofessional. I had stayed in many many hotels around the world and never had this terrible experience of wanting to leave the soonest I could.

READ THE SMALL PRINT
The person who checked us in was very pleasant and gave us a quick overview of the room features. It was fun to stay in a traditional Japanese guest house. BUT...it is located in a very busy area and was so noisy throughout the night. Drunk people leaving bars, sirens, and when the noise finally quieted down, construction started across the street. We stayed for three nights (having paid a lot of money in advance) and all three nights I was woken up continuously by noise on the street right outside. The hotel left ear plugs on the pillows - not a good sign, and when I checked my itinerary after the first miserable night I saw the small print. Something about the hotel doesn't guarantee noise-free rooms. The ear plugs didn't help much. Also, just a heads up that there are only three rooms in this inn, and there isn't a front desk or someone on duty to help you (we didn't mind, however). The room was clean and the beds comfortable. When we decided to stay in Kyoto a fourth night, we moved to a quieter hotel.

Tranquil hotel in the heart of Kyoto
Small hotel right in the heart of Kyoto. Huge rooms, giant beds, big whirlpool bath, luxurious bathroom. Great Japanese breakfast too. Helpful English speaking staff. Best of all, quiet and peaceful, and blissfully air conditioned. Near all the bus lines too for all the many sites. Walking distance to Ponticho and Gion too.

We had such a good time at the hotel. They had great staff, amazing facilities and the location was so close to everything. Close by to great restaurants, bars and shopping. Would recommend to everyone visiting Kyoto to stay here!!!

Luxery Ryoka in Kyoto
This is a luxery Ryoka in central Kyoto close to both shopping and restaurants. The Ryoka itself has a small steak restaurant where breakfast is also served. As we were leaving the streets of central Kyto were closed due to a large festival but the staff managed to get us to the train station by the company car despite the traffic jam, much appreciated.

Honeymoon Stay--Awesome!
Touring Japan with my new bride and am so fortunate I came across this ryokan for our stay in Kyoto. I have been to the city before, but this really made it special. Location is tremendous--a half block from the best night life and restaurants in the area. The room itself (we stayed in the one--of three rooms total--that had the outdoor bathtub) was just incredible. It is "western style" so the bed was more comfortable than what I've encountered at other ryokan style hotels, but the room is decorated with Japanese antiques and really felt so cozy that we didn't want to leave. The staff was extremely friendly, the included Japanese style breakfast was wonderful, and I couldn't have asked for anything to have been any better than it was. Absolutely highly recommend if you're in Kyoto and looking for something different than your typical hotel stay.

Traditional Japanese style with mordern design
The fantastic two-nights stay is the highlight in our Kyoto visit. The hotel could set a good example in textbook, which perfectly combined the traditional Japanese house with the modern western design. Like the Classic living room guarded by golden samurai so much, also the awesome bath tub. Strongly recommended the restaurant downstairs, I have a lovely Kobe beef dinner on my birthday night.

A very authentic Japanese experience. Beautiful room with an absolutely amazing private hot spa and shower. Pity that staff spoke no English so despite the price, limited "service" involved. Breakfast options rather limited. Restaurant closed for private event so couldn't have dinner at the hotel.

Fantastiskt litet hotell i historisk byggnad mitt i Kyoto. Restaurang som serverar Kobebiff i bottenvåningen. Vackra rum och vänlig personal. En otrolig upplevelse som rekommenderas!

Staff was very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent, and Jun, who checked us in, spoke excellent English. We were only going to stay 2 nights but loved the accommodations so much we stayed an extra night. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely staff with ideal location
The staff went above and beyond with service. The evening host evening walked us to the entrance to the Pontocho alley when we intially asked directions not realizing it was just steps from the hotel. We even received an unexpected departure gift of two tenugui!

Beautiful Room/Wonderful Staff
This inn is an absolute find. The rooms are absolutely as beautiful and well designed and appointed as the pictures suggest. It is only a few months old (as of October 2016) and are newly designed and built. There are a million wonderful touches from the soaking shower to the under-bed mood lighting to the very large soaking whirlpool tub (incredible after a day of heavy sightseeing) to the many beautiful antiques that decorate them. As far as the staff goes, words literally fail. Attentive, kind, helpful are the closest I can come, but they don't do the staff justice. We absolutely loved this place and the staff who cared for us, and I am planning to recommend it to a good friend who is traveling to Kyoto next year. We stayed three days and sure didn't want to leave.

Absolute a must for a true Kyoto experience...
Centrally located to restaurant, shops and within walking distance to Gion distract and many other temples and shrines. Loved this guesthouse and worth every dollar spent. A truly Japanese Kyoto experience. The room was beautifully decorated with pure excellence and attention to detail in every corner of the room. An outdoor bathtub and fountain area to die for! The Japanese style breakfast is a must and sitting in the small intimate restaurant each morning was well worth the serenity. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to all. There are only 3 rooms and the rooms are on the higher end but worth every penny spent! The staff were genuinely so beautiful and happy to accommodate to your every need. Loved loved loved it !!!!

Very cool, well situated, quiet, fun, great food!
Wow! Amazing! We travel a lot, but this friendly, unique gem of a hotel ranks as one of our favorites anywhere in the world. It's excellent location made it the perfect base for exploring Kyoto. The staff was courteous and knowledgable, and the service was impeccable. Our marvelous, well-appointed room offered the perfect balance between great comfort and enjoyable atmosphere. Their very good restaurant offered tasty, well-priced food and delightful breakfasts. They even provided portable wi-fi! I can't imagine a better hotel experience anywhere.
