I have been regularly patronizing the California and the adjacent Main Street Hotel for 30 plus years now. Yes, I may be biased in my review but staying in Downtown Vegas satisfies my old school Vegas sentimentality as opposed to the calamity of the Strip. Throughout the decades I’ve found both hotel’s unparalleled in catering to my needs.

Only complaint was that housekeeping did not clean the room and replace towels daily. They did give us towels when we happened to catch them in the hallway and they asked if we needed anything on the second night there. On the third day morning we saw them in the hallway and one of the ladies asked if we wanted the room cleaned. When we said yes, she asked if we wanted the glass cleaned too?! Aren’t they supposed to clean everything without asking what we want cleaned? We thought that was odd.

We enjoyed our stay. This Casino is clean, but a bit smoky (cigarettes? Would have loved more eating options as most restaurants were closed during our stay. I think it's time Casinos offer more dining options instead of being open only 3 - 4 days during the week.

They hit us with a $35 resort charge even though we were only there overnight and used no facilities. A blatant overcharge. Won't go back there. Smoky.

Property close to nearby attractions and comfortable setting. $10 blackjack table was no where to be seen though. Enjoyed dining availability and room was spacious and clean.

On the surface the room was clean. However, they could have done a much better job of vacuuming the floor. Areas close to the beds had bits of debris which makes me wonder how well a job they vacuumed the floor. The bathroom was nice and clean. There was no coffee maker. Considering how much they charge for resort fees, they should at least provide a Keurig style coffee maker.

Would not recommend this hotel as a solo female traveler. The room had only a single deadbolt lock and no secondary chain lock which did not make me feel safe within the room. During the last night of my stay I was awaken at 1a to what sounded like 2-3 men (I assume intoxicated) banging, pulling on the door handle and yelling. Safe to say I didn’t feel safe the remainder of the night and was glad to be checking out the next morning. Will not be back to this hotel

Its accessible to fremont street. Internet access is limited to 3 devices only. Swimming pool is small. You can hear the train but its ok.

Loved that the dining options and how close/central it was to everything. Walkable distance to several other dinings options and stores. valet was wonderful! They were great to us every single night.

This was our first stay at the California; became the convenient meeting point for friends who are regular guests at the California (who also recommended that we stay there), and the meeting point for family who recently moved to Las Vegas. We were happy with our room, good amenities and clean. The staff upon check-in and during our stay were friendly and answered all our questions.

Even number rooms are on the street side which is noisier. Windows let in a considerable amount of noise. Had a mini fridge in the room and a walk in shower. Would stay here again but in an odd numbered room.
