The hotel is unique in decor. It is older, but very clean and antique decor. I loved it. We were pleasantly surprised to get a larger room. Very close to Central Park and Museum across the street. Also subway is close. We walked to the theatre district for a play. I was so happy to find that cleaning staff found my wallet. I had left it in the safe and staff had given it to the office. What a huge relief!! Nice to know we do have some decent honest people in this world!! Excelsior is our recommendation to stay in NYC! Love New York. Hope to get back soon!

Beautiful hotel, not enough hot water & broken AC

It’s a beautiful hotel with a view overlooking the Museum of Natural History. Unfortunately the air conditioner pumped out hot air instead of cold air, even when the in-room thermostat was set to cool; and the shower sometimes didn’t have enough hot water.

Location, location, location. I have stayed in many different parts of Manhattan. I loved this spot because it is right next to Central Park and the B & C Subway lines. The staff were friendly. The hotel is old-fashioned. The fan in my bathroom was very loud.

This hotel is wonderful! I completely enjoyed my two day stay there. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was immaculate and well maintained. The only negative thought I have is that there is no longer a restaurant in the hotel forcing visitors to find a place for breakfast and lunch in the surrounding blocks.

This hotel is very nice but also friendly and relaxed as is the Upper West side compared to other parts of Manhattan. The heat was way too warm -- ran the noisy air conditioning most of the night. Other than that, it's a great "home" to come home to after a busy NYC day. It's my sixth time staying here. Love it.

Excellent value for money

The Excelsior hotel is in an excellent position directly opposite the Museum of Natural History and a stone's throw to central park, many good cafes and restaurants and the subway station. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. It is excellent value for money in such an expensive city.

Great location, quiet street, easy access to subway. Breakfast room was under construction, so advertised breakfast not available, which was inconvenient. No in room coffee or room service - plan ahead, as closest coffee shop is a block away. Staff was helpful and kind, and room was clean and well maintained - excellent housekeeping service.

cool smaller boutique-ish hotel in a great area. A few minor issues with the hotel - small things that need update or repair. But overall the hotel was very nice, my 2 double beds room was spacious, clean, and very nice!

Spacious, comfy, and great location!

Needless to say, the location was TERRIFIC. Across from museums, the park, near lots of good restaurants, and an easy walk across town. The room was spacious, too....That was a concern for me knowing how tiny New York spaces can be. Also, it was quiet! The bed, another big concern for my lousy back, was terrific. Woke up with no back issues! Overall a great stay.

Nice and quiet..very nice cozy room that I was in...and a great location...next to amnh.. planetarium...and 100 ft to the subway..in 3 stops was right on Broadway theater district..

We stay here every time we come to NYC. Quaint, quiet, and amazing location. Close to the park and subway makes it ideal for our visits. They staff is always friendly and accommodating and rooms are clean and comfortable.
