Everything is spacious; the room, onsen, hallways, stairs, reception area, car park and restaurant. Staff were very friendly. They successfully communicated English. The solid building and decor is nostalgically 20th century. The well built building means the room was very quiet.
The room was japanese style and very nice. It was quite large as well and we had a private toilet. You have to use the public bath on the 5th floor to wash up, however, and there is a no tattoos sign... you can try getting permission from the front desk, maybe going at a time when there are few people.
The biggest issue was really just the lack of transportation options... there is a bus stop next to the hotel and that's about it. We ended up waiting at the airport for an extra 1.5 hours since we had to take an earlier bus. This is by no way the hotels fault, but is something to consider when you need to get to the airport in the morning... you may need to get up and leave earlier to catch the bus.
