"The name of the hotel makes it sound like a luxurious place, on first impression it’s a nice building from the outside and the reception area has been finished nicely. The reception area shares a window with the spa pool which was exciting to my wee boy.
We were a bit early so sat and waited to be checked in and it was nice sitting having a coffee. When we got up to our room I was a bit unimpressed with the decor on the floor, damaged wallpaper, scuffed/damaged skirting boards. Once we were in the room it was mixed feelings. The beds were big and comfortable and clean but the carpet was ripped and there was a dried pea sitting on the floor (random!).
The bathroom was where the room was really let down, the toilet seat repeatedly shifted when using it and the shower flow was so poor that I ended up using a cup at the sink to wash the shampoo out of my hair. In the morning the bathroom was very cold with no way to heat it up for children having a bath.
The staff were all lovely, can’t fault them one bit. The pool was fine, a good few tiles missing around the edges and steps but the water was lovely and warm. The changing rooms were a bit dated with some lockers without doors and a bit of a dirty odour to them.
Breakfast was nice, a bit of a crush with the amount of people but again staff were on top of keeping an eye on food getting low etc and the food was hot and plentiful.
All in all a bit of a mixed bag, not a luxurious stay but a fine, basic base."
