Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Gardendale/Birmingham North
8/10 Good
"First of all, I'd like to say that the staff here are wonderful, from the housekeeping staff to the manager to the check-in and check-out desk employees: A+. The shower was hot, the AC worked, the mini fridge kept my items cold, the pillows were comfortable, the location was fairly quiet, cable TV has many channels. It is within short walking distance to a WalMart if you - for example - find yourself stuck in Gardendale, Alabama with no vehicle. A few complaints: wifi was pretty spotty, and the room could have used a good vacuuming - there were crumbs and sunflower seeds everywhere, including the pull-out couch mattress and underneath the air conditioning. Also, a word of warning to any solo female travelers: there are rooms in this Microtel that can be accessed from a ledge on the exterior of the building. The screen over the window in my room had been pulled off and was laying on the ledge, as if someone had previously tried to enter the room that way. Make sure your windows lock securely and keep your eyes and ears out for suspicious behavior if you get placed in one of these rooms."
