It's warm and clean, smells nice, very quiet too. Bathrooms are close to all the bedrooms very convenient to go at nighttime too Kitchen provides breakfast just like home style basic food but pans are old so eggs all got stuck and burned when you cook. Staff are friendly.

We had a great overnight stay in a family room. Excellent facilities and the kids loved the little cinema. Being in an old building, the windows were a little draughty at night, but the room had an excellent heater. Staff really helpful. Overnight parking Sat- Sun only $10 in carpark very nearby.

Shabby

Friendly staff, clean rooms, very old faded bed clothes. Could badly do with replacement bed linen. I love the quations on the walls outside. Free soup and popcorn good idea, different soup every second day would also be a good idea. WiFi was very bad, had to sit in hall ways stairs to get it. All that said we did enjoy our stay.

Good enough and walking distance to bus station

This is near the Beehive, Bus & train station just 10-15mins walk and beside the Chinese Embassy if I am correct. New World is just a few walks away across the street. It's a bit far from the main CBD and Te Papa but as long as the weather permits it is ok to walk. Cleanroom I booked our own twin room (bunk bed) but shared bathroom. Free breakfast is good and help yourself to fry your eggs if there are some in the kitchen. Good experience for us.

Not a good night's sleep

Contrary to many reviews, it was definitely noisy on Friday and Saturday night until midnight. It didn't help that a window in our room wouldn't fully close, so not only did it let all outside noise in but with it being winter, I had to try to sleep bundled up in my jumper. It was cold and the bed uncomfortable. Things were clean and staff pleasant, but the one amenity we tried to use (video games for the kids) turned out to be a bust (not working). The only amenity we truly needed and absolutely didn't get was a comfortable night's sleep. Very disappointing and the lack of sleep negatively impacted our trip and activities.

One night stop over but very impressed

Great place to stay, unfortunately it was only a one night stop over as would have liked to take advantage of the movie room and tennis courts if we had time. Hopefully next time. Friendly staff and clean rooms. Loved that the bathrooms had flannels, hair straighteners and blow waves for free use. They even had cotton buds in the bathroom and a basket encouraging those who have finished with creams, soaps etc to leave them there for others to use. Kitchen well set up, free breakfast. Was very impressed with the vast array of containers of ground and whole spices for guest use. Would go back again.

Brief overnighter

Brief overnight stay to catch ferry nexr morning so not much opportunity to make use of varied supplied facilities ie tennis court, movie room etc. Hopefully another time.

It was lovely and warm in the hostel after a very long day. It was nice a close to the ferry terminal. It was beautifully clean. Definitely will stay here again and definitely recommend.

Loved the shared spaces, kids loved the cinema room and board fames. Breakfast was good awesome to have someone making omlets for us. We had a family room for 4 and there was plenty of space. Easy to find, just off the motorway and a short down hill walk to the water front.

Superb!

Amazing....amazing hostel! Several world tours, in my past. Kitchen...immaculate, breakfast superb. Free use of tennis courts. This is really is a converted lodge. Support from staff .... very special. The rating is already in the 9’s — it’s not high enough!
