Hotel Riu Palace Costa Rica - All Inclusive

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel was clean, but a bit outdated. The staff was very nice and hospitable. Getting the mini-bar restocked was a challenge at times, as was getting more than one towel per person. The food in the restaurants, for the most part, was good. Restaurants don't take reservations, so you do need to be in line early to get a seat. They only do two seatings, one at 5:00 pm and one at 7:00 pm. The Monkey Bar is definitely worth the walk. You'll be greeted by the monkeys along the walk, and the food and drinks are definitely authentic. (Take some grapes or bread from the buffet to have a really cool monkey experience.)"

Occidental Papagayo - Adults Only - All inclusive

"I really enjoyed my stay at Occidental Papagayo overall. The staff was wonderful and the property was nice and secluded, maybe a little more than I realized it would be. There were lots of travel costs going back and forth but plenty of transportation options. The amenities are cool but I didn't read the book. I didn't find out about room service and the wonderful cheeseburgers until my last night. My advice to others is to read the book in the room and do as much of a property walk as you can. There were some problems booking the restaurant because the only person who does it has limited hours and the schedules are put out weekly. I ultimately was able to make it to the Oriental restaurant which was pretty good. I did notice some issues with trash being left out but it's a big property and was probably more of a miscommunication than anything. For instance, my son's room initially had a bag of towels, cleaning supplies and trash that sat there until the next day. Based on their response times for other things, I'm sure a quick call would have sat that straight. Anyway, nighttime is a little creepy with all the random raccoons running around that have gotten really smart. They're not aggressive from what I've seen but I would rather not deal with them. The beach area is lovely with regular ladies offering massages on the beach for reasonable amounts. Overall, would recommend but maybe give some tips to those looking to stay."

"So much to love here! The breakfast was amazing with so many options for all members of our party, the grounds were gorgeous, the hot springs made for perfect evening entertainment and the wildlife around the property was so much fun to see! Only need to know is that the rooms are a little older- they were clean though and worked fine for us! Overall a solid value!!"

The Springs Resort and Spa at Arenal

"Property is beautiful and luxurious. Our vacation included The Springs, Nayara, mi Amor, Tabacon. Liked...the big rooms with view of volcano from bed. The vast manmade pools as well as the water slide are highlights like a waterpark. The activity center seems engaging, we didn't do many besides the big cat feeding. It was a spectacular experience seeing with the animals. What we didn't like... feels like staff here was lacking around the pool area and never left their bar nest. Also compared to all these other 5 star properties breakfast was not included, $30+ avocado toast +this and that tax:) just felt like the springs tried to squeeze every single penny out of their client. Staff was very professional just didn't look happy to be there, if that makes sense."
