"We were genuinely sad we only had one night to stay at Banana Azul! Check in was quick and efficient and friendly. The fresh coconut was a lovely treat. The Howler Suite was charming and the view magical. The food in the restaurant was delicious. I highly recommend Banana Azul if you want an authentic Costa Rica experience that’s right on the Playa Negra beach. I’ll definitely be returning. "

"The view from the pool is amazing! We spent an entire day there. The view from the room patio was also nice. We saw lots of birds every day. Get ready for the stair master to get to and from your room. Our room had a sketchy hole in the ceiling above the shower and we had quite a few bugs in our room, but no big deal when you're in paradise. The bathroom was a lil small and dated, but we hardly spent any time in there. Drinks at the pool were reasonably-priced even thigh they didn't have any...

"The best thing about this hotel is the owner and his wife. It is a small hotel and they are the only "staff". Their hospitality is amazing. The second best thing is the restaurant. The breakfasts are great and the one dinner we had there was much much better than the meals that we had in restaurants in the town. The rooms were clean and comfortable and there was lots of hot water. There was also cable tv in the rooms (mostly Spanish channels of course). The only thing that was kinda weird...
