"For its location, you couldn’t really ask for more. Sure, the hotel is a bit tired and in need of a lick of paint here and there but I thought it was great value. Very close to the main attractions and reception staff were really friendly and attentive. Expect a basic room but my room was clean and spacious and a very good as a base to explore town. "We have stayed at the Petwood Hotel before, in order to join a friends party. We loved it so much that I treated us to a room overlooking the garden. It was well worth the extra money, as there was a raised area with a lovely table overlooking the gardens as well as the huge size of the room itself. The history and atmospheric quality of the hotel is superb and the local area is fabulous, especially for walks or cycling. Treat yourself to Sunday lunch if you can as a fabulous pianist called...

"A wonderful stay in the King Henry VIII suite where modern conveniences melded with historical value. We enjoyed exploring the grounds, gardens, and a church that is adjacent to the castle. Our evening was finished with a delightful dinner in the castle. "

"Decoration throughput somewhat tired. The restaurant only opened for breakfast, so would have to eat in the bar or your room. Shower over bath with step up had lethally slippery bath floor, had to ask for non slip mat, which was supplied on the second day. One window latch broken and air conditioning noisy. Best part was the location of the hotel with an easy walk into Durham town."
