Fredericksburg is a Texan city rooted firmly in German traditions. The city’s most significant site is the National Museum of the Pacific War, which pays tribute to a local World War II hero. See the adjacent Vereins Kirche Museum, housed in a replica of a church used by the first German settlers. The European-style thatched roof stands as a symbol of the city’s heritage. The museum sits in the Marktplatz (Market Place), which has a playground for young kids. Look for events and festivals in the spacious square.

Discover Hill Country’s famed peach orchards and wineries dotted around the city. Test the season’s vintages with tasting sessions at Grape Creek Vineyards just east of the city. Stroll through their picturesque grounds and take a tour of the cellar. Then head to Marburger Orchard, just south of Fredericksburg. The city of Fredericksburg lies about 80 miles (128.7 kilometers) west of Austin and the same distance north of San Antonio. The nearest international transportation hub is San Antonio International Airport.
