"Charming historic hotel in the Gaslamp. Like taking a trip back in time. The hotel was originally called the Hotel St James and was built in 1918, its now been completed renovated but retained its vintage aura. There’s a French diner and high end cocktail bar connected to the lobby, which was a great place to start my night out. Check in was a breeze, I opted to pay at the hotel, they also put a $100 hold on your card for incidentals, which is pretty standard. (The funds were released the day after I checked out). Staff was super friendly.
The rooms are a bit small, but are very unique and have some very cool decor. The way the rooms are decorated makes it feel more like a cozy bedroom in a really cool historic house than a hotel. Bed was very comfy and the place is nice and quiet at night, I couldn’t hear anything through the walls or in the hallways.
There’s also an awesome rooftop lounge with a bar that’s exclusive to guests only, which I forgot to check out because I was busy exploring San Diego. However I’m sure I’ll be staying here again, so I’ll check it out next time. For the price, you really can’t beat the experience here. If you’re looking for something cool and unique, historic but trendy, but are also working with a “Motel 6” type budget, you can’t go wrong with this place."
"The hotel in general wasn't bad, the staff was friendly, quick check in and out was easy and fast. Room was cozy. Bed was comfortable. Just a few blocks from Little Italy. I only have 2 complaints
1.) One out of the two elevators were working so the wait for the elevator was ridiculously long and people were packed in there like sardines.
2.) Thought the restaurant menu would have been larger, but there were only a few items to choose from.
Overall, I'd definitely book again here. "
"Our stay at the Hard Rock Hotel was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The hotel was beautiful, clean, and had such a fun and vibrant atmosphere. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, always making sure we had everything we needed. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and had an incredible view. The food, pool area, and overall amenities exceeded our expectations. Every detail made our trip feel relaxing and memorable. We truly enjoyed every moment and cannot wait to come back again. Highly recommend staying here if you want a perfect mix of luxury, entertainment, and great hospitality"
"Excellent stay. I was upgraded to the 12th floor (top floor) without asking. Felt great. Awesome staff. Will definitely be back. The only negative would be the shower door. The door closest to the faucet is sealed/locked for some reason. It was difficult turning on the shower w/o getting wet with the initial cold water. Outside of that, GREAT stay, great staff and great hotel."
