Most memorable stay of our trip. There’s a shuttle service from the station which was very helpful and makes commute easy. All the staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. The private onsen in the room was lovely. Kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast were excellent. We had a very lovely stay here and would highly recommend.
The stay here was wonderful. The staff were amazing, the dining experience was perfect. Would recommend for anyone that wants a quiet onsen off the main travel path.
This charming onsen hotel by Lake Biwako offers a spacious, pristine room with an open-air onsen bath. Both dinner and breakfast were delectable. The staff were friendly and attentive, making our stay truly unforgettable.
The beef sashimi was the BEST thing we had our entire time in Japan. The traditional food were also very good while still having options for those who wanted more modern meals
The staff was extremely friendly, and they were also professional and clear about the guidelines for the onsen and dinner expectations. The food was incredible, the private bath was soothing. And the area is wonderful. Lake Biwa is a special place.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Everything was very comfortable and food was delicious. Baths are very nice and view of the lake is lovely. Would do again in the future
We loved the Japanese authenic culture and service from time of arrival to room decoration. Best of all the yukata , dinning a d breakfasts with authentic Japanese dishes.
The staff and hospitality are exceptional!!!
everything was amazing from the room, to the onsen, the food, the staff and the service. there is a free mobile phone in ogoto onsen station which you can use to call the different onsen hotels nearby and they will send a shuttle to come pick you up :)
Great experience of a traditional ryokan. Super friendly staff, and a kids friendly place. As a foreigner you have to be prepared to eat fish and miso soup with tofu for breakfast.
Biwako Hanakaido was/is amazing. The staff are very friendly and service is top tier. I really can’t say much about this place other than it was amazing. I would do it again on my next trip. The dinner set was amazing and so was the breakfast.
Top notch ryokan, highly recommended.
Stayed in a Japanese style room, including 2 meals per day, and with shuttle service from the ryokan to the train station.
Includes an onsen and massage service as well.
The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable.
The meals delicious.
The staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Very nice experience while in Kyoto.
Hotel is nice and clean.
Two included meals are authentic and delicious, and they provided different sets (both breakfast and dinner) in our two days stay.
Service is outstanding. All their staffs are kind, patient, and get problems solved. I couldn’t find better service anywhere else.
Loved having a drawer of kimonos to choose from to wear for our stay! The room was wonderful and we saw the beautiful sunrise from our bed. It was really a special experience. The private bath on our balcony was so nice and relaxing. The staff is super, very well trained and attentive. They make you feel special from the moment you walk in with a snack and a drink. We purchased some quality souvenirs from the gift shop. The half board is a grand experience. The onsens are unforgettable. I went early and had the whole place to myself.
This Onsen was incredible. The staff was very polite and helpful. The rooms were spacious and traditional, a had yukata for us to wear around the hotel. We had a private bath that was beautiful and very relaxing. The meal they prepared for us was very elegant and delicious. Beware that it is very seafood heavy (my wife isn’t a huge seafood fan). There is a bit of a language barrier, but it didn’t keep us from communicating (google translate helped a few times). Overall a great experience in a less crowded and beautiful area of Kyoto that was fairly easy to access
The staff and private onsen were top-notch, no comparison. The meal provided was interesting. We were hoping that there was a way to change our first night’s meal choice prior to our stay instead of the business defaulting to the traditional Japanese meal on the first night of our stay. After messaging on Expedia, they would not let us change the meal. Other than that, the service provided by the staff is second to none and we wouldn’t trade our stay with Biwako Hanakaido for anything.
The staff were lovely. We paid for private onsen with a massage after, highly recommend.
Dinner was fun and tasty, beautiful presentation.
Views from the room were stunning, the open air bath photos are a bit misleading, it's VERY small and deep so no view can be appreciated from the tub.
The bed was ok, certainly more comfortable than a mat (I presume) but the pillows were atrocious, I suppose they are traditional with the buckwheat filling but made for a rough sleep.
Loved hanging out in the robes and was a great last night in Japan for my partner and I
This beautiful, well-run hotel makes you feel very special. We were greeted warmly on arrival, given peach tea and walked through the hotel’s spa protocol. Since they are currently doing work on parts of the spa (this was no problem, and there was no noise).
The onsite onsen is absolutely beautiful— a deep pond in a (part) bamboo forest, relaxing and piping hot.
The dinner and breakfast are extravagant, delicious, and gorgeously presented.
The staff is so very kind and gracious. They go far out of their way to make you feel at home. We speak no Japanese except “good morning” and the staff spoke enough English to help us in every way.
This was my first trip ever to Japan, let alone an onsen, and this hotel made it a delightful experience!
The shuttle to pickup/drop off to and from Ogoto Onsen Station was great; otherwise, it would be a 10 minutes walk with luggage! Our tatami room was very traditional and offered a great view of the lake. Only downside is no blackout curtain so the room is nice and BRIGHT at 6 o'clock in the morning! The 10-course (I think) dinner was interesting and filling; it took us 2 1/2 hours to finish. One note though, the massage was not very pleasant but then again, the appointment was 10pm so I wasn't expecting a great masseuse at that time. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.
This is a small onsen ryokan with limited amenities, compared to other ones we stayed before. The front desk staffs are very friendly and professional. The check in process was amazing! We were seated at the cafe enjoying tea and sweets while the staff explained the info to us. We were staying in the Nakagawa special room on the premium floor. Although the room is a bit small, the Nakagawa wooden furnitures/decorations are so unique and beautiful. The room has an open air onsen bath so we don’t have to go to the public one. However, the view is quite far from the lake and it’s not much to see. We had our dinners at the Japanese private dinning room overlooking the beautiful zen garden. Food was good and service was amazing. The lobby cafe offers really tasty cakes, which it’s a must-have. We also tried the massage, which was surprisingly good! Overall, We had a very good time staying in this onsen Ryokan.
We stayed for just one night to expierence the best this ryokan had to offer and man did it exceed all our expectations. To truly know, book one of their 4 suites. The #500 rooms. Massive rooms with authentic tatami mats, personal and private onsen that is open air facing the beautiful lake, out of this world seasonal dinner/breakfast course. The area is secluded enough to be quiet but not far from the local town. Cute and quaint souvenir shop. Oh and the bidet toilet is the best we've ever seen. Lastly, the staff is extremely accommodating, friendly, and helpful. They know english very well too. They have a shuttle that does pick up and drop off from Ogotoonsen Station so skip the taxi and call the resort when you get there. If you have cell service there is a free cell phone that you can use to call the resort. Theres also a guide of numbers for all the resorts in the area. To wrap up, book a night at this ryokan you will not regret treating yourself to a time of lavish luxury.
