Great little bed and breakfast. Loved the room and how clean everything was. Also great that the cottage was super close to the beach and provided beach towels for guests. Cottage also provided breakfast and parking. Would love to stay again!

It was very nice to have easy, free parking in this very busy area. Only 2 blocks to the beach & boardwalk. Very good location to get around Virginia Beach mertro area. Continental breakfast is good with fresh fruit and bagels but not expansive. Plenty of self serve tea & coffee options. Really liked our 2nd floor room with a large private bathroom. The outside porches with the rockers are outstanding.

Amazing stay - hosts were so nice and the breakfast was out of this world! Amenities were modern and cozy - barely missed home at all. Will definitely look to stay here again when we visit VA Beach.

The pictures online show a wonderful breakfast. The manager stated “They are old pictures”. Then take them down! There were strawberries, bagels, coffee, oatmeal. The place is lovely and very clean. Parking is good.

We had stayed here under the prior owners. I was disappointed to no longer have a gourmet breakfast, but Chris more than made up for this. He helped me navigate the push-button locks and got me a key fob for our room (just in case). He advised a few breakfast spots (both excellent) and provided us with a clean, comfortable room. We'll definitely stay with him again.

I had a nice stay at Barclay Cottage Inn overall. The property was clean, reasonably priced, and conveniently located near the beach. The service was also good, and I had a pleasant experience with the staff. My biggest disappointment was the breakfast. I realize the property describes it as a continental breakfast, so I may have had different expectations based on some of the breakfast photos I saw online. The breakfast offered during my stay was fairly limited: bagels with cream cheese or butter, oatmeal, fruit, coffee/K-cups, and orange juice. The kiwi was good, but the strawberries offered were past their prime. The breakfast setup could also use some improvement. There wasn’t a clearly designated area for dirty dishes, while clean dishes were placed on one of the tables. It wasn’t always obvious which dishes were clean and which had already been used, so guests were left to figure it out. A little more signage or a more defined setup would make the experience much easier. The rooms also had fairly thin walls, so sound traveled more than I would have preferred. That said, for an affordable place to stay close to the beach, I thought Barclay Cottage was decent and worked well for my trip. I would just recommend going in expecting a very basic continental breakfast rather than a traditional cooked bed-and-breakfast breakfast.

Most of all, we loved the hospitality of the owners. They were very gracious and full of local history and information. They were very good at balancing when they needed to be available and when we needed privacy. They are a very lovely couple, and we would definitely stay at Barclay on our next visit to Virginia Beach.
