Travel Guide

A sandy beach with clear turquoise waters, a rocky cliff, and sparse vegetation.
A coastal town with a beach, houses, and a hill with power lines.
A large outdoor swimming pool with clear blue water, surrounded by palm trees and a modern building with a curved roof.
A woman in a swimming pool with a clear view of the ocean and distant islands.
A wooden boardwalk leading to a beach with turquoise water and a small island in the distance.

More than just the gateway to the Keppel Islands, this laid-back village packs plenty of seaside appeal into its pretty esplanade, waterpark and buzzing markets.

Experience the beauty of the Capricorn Coast in Yeppoon, a town with one of the best ocean vistas in Central Queensland. Admire the panorama of island-speckled waters and clear blue skies on one of Yeppoon’s many sunny days as you stroll along the town’s waterfront. Join the locals at one of the lively community events and sample dishes that feature locally grown tropical produce in the town’s cafés and restaurants.

Get acquainted with Yeppoon’s village-style charm when you take a stroll down the Esplanade. Wander beneath tall palm trees and make your way up the gently sloping grassy hill to take in unbeatable views of the offshore islands. Check out the village’s Main Beach and go for a swim in the lifeguard-patrolled waters. Bring the kids to Keppel Kraken, which is a fun-filled waterpark on the foreshore. Appleton Park is a family-friendly public park with picnic shelters, barbecues, a playground and a mini bike track.

Explore Yeppoon’s downtown streets to hunt for souvenirs and gifts at the boutique stores. A range of cafés and restaurants serve up tasty modern Australian fare that highlights some of the region’s fruits, such as pineapples, mangoes and lychees. Celebrate the annual harvest of Yeppoon pineapples at the Tropical Pinefest in October.

Stroll from the town center to Figtree and Ross creeks, where you’ll find lush sub-tropical forests dotted with black and little-red flying foxes fast asleep in the trees. Stick around until sunset to see thousands of these nocturnal creatures wake up and fly toward their feeding grounds. Visit on the first Sunday of the month to find the Fig Tree Markets by the creek. Pick up fresh local produce and intriguing arts and crafts at this busy market.

From Yeppoon, you can access the stunning Keppel Islands and the offshore reefs via charter boats and ferries departing from Rosslyn Bay Harbour.

Yeppoon is located on the Capricorn Coast in Central Queensland. It is an easy half-hour drive or 1-hour train ride northeast of Rockhampton. Choose from vacation cottages and comfortable hotels in this relaxing waterfront town. Yeppoon’s sub-tropical climate makes it a year-round destination.

"Ok for a few days, parking is very limited. The family room was a bit disappointing, one bedroom apartment turned into a "Family Room", which meant the queen bedroom was in the living area and two single beds in the bedroom, a small apartment so nowhere to sit in comfort inside unless on the bed. ..."
