"We stayed in ocean front upgraded room, and the view was amazing. The hotel room is a bit dated but mostly comfortable. The bed had worn flannel sheets that were rough so sleeping wasn’t great. The water pressure in shower and temperature were great. The mini bar was good and not overpriced. Coffee was very weak so bring your own Keurig pods if you want stronger coffee. The highlight was the view, either sitting inside on comfy chairs or on patio in rocking chairs. Didn’t use pool or hot tub as they didn’t look inviting. We’d return just for the view and sleeping to crashing waves. Best views for this price."

"Beautiful location, clean/solid facility, and accommodatingly kind staff. Especially love the outdoor firepits, the spectacular view of the ocean surrounded by beautiful foliage and rockery. Would stay again."
Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

"First of all, great location! Center of town between wharf and Alvarado street, we could walk pretty much everywhere. Plenty of shops and places to eat that were great. Upon arrival, Bell was very helpful. Walking in, the lobby had an off putting sewer smell that either went away or got accustomed to. Check in staff was not too friendly but did her job I guess. Stay: room and areas were keep well and felt very comfortable. There was a scheduled power outage that was not relayed until day of. Was not provided correct information that led to a less than comfortable night, however the property did make up for it. Parking was convenient. Overall, we had a very good stay at Portola. Staff could be a bit more friendly ."
