I was only there to shop at the Bavarian Sausage grocery store as part of a short road trip. I didn't get around to other areas.

Fitchburg is about 15-20 mins away from Madison. There are many restaurants in Fitchburg, but you probably wanna go to downtown in Madison. If you have a car, it is a great place to stay since it is far from traffic and crowds. Uber is another option
