Domenico the owner is a gracious and wonderful host. The place was just renovated and the rooms and bathroom are brand new, modern, functional and Italian designed. Domenico even gave my wife a farewell gift souvenir to add to his personal touch. Hotel is on a beautiful neighborhood. The bus stop infront of the hotel less than 5 minutes from everything, including the Stadium of Florentina. The hotel is on a third floor and no elevator but this is a small price to pay for this wonderful place. I am already looking forward to me next stay at the hotel Emma. Don’t miss the eateries upstairs in the market place in Florence. What a coulinary experience!!! I can’t believe Rick Steves and Bourdain missed it. Thanks Domenico!

When we arrived at hote Emma, we found our reservation had NOT been sent to them by Expedia. They had no record of my reservation and they had NO rooms available. Fortunately, Manager found us ONE room at another hotel. It was ONE room all 4 of us had to share I am very disappointed in Expedia and will NEVER book through them again.

Hotel Emma is exactly as described and seen in pictures. Recently renovated so everything is up to part. Great looking rooms, comfortable bed & nice bathroom. Although, is a bit off the city center (30min walking or 12-15min by taxi/bus) it is rather accessible. My family and I enjoyed strolling to/from the city center and merging as much as we can with the locals :)

Not a bad hotel but quite far from the town centre
A reasonable hotel but it is a good 30/40 minute walk from the centre of town. Not a massive issue if you are fit and capable and only staying for a short time (we stayed for 4 nights). The room and bathroom were clean and tidy and it was pretty comfortable - the only thing that wasn't so good were the mosquitoes. I would recommend taking some decent repellent. Don't expect a big breakfast as part of the package - it is very basic (but the coffee is lovely).

Let me keep this simple: 3 flights of stairs Bed bugs 20 mins away from center by bus Walls are extremely thin One 1 phone per internet service, and they cut it off the night before we left shower curtains had mold at the bottom Pro: hot water, and cold air bus stop in front of hotel do not carry no more than 1 bag eles you will be sorry!

Clean, comfortable and excellent value
My wife and I stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Emma in July 2014. It's a small hotel situated in a relatively quiet area just north of the city centre. It's a 10 minute bus ride from Santa Maria Novella station on the number 11 and 17 buses, which stop right outside the hotel. The bus stop to go back into the city is just around the corner on Viale dei Mille. Our room to be clean and comfortable and had everything that we needed. The air conditioning was very good which was a real bonus given the hot weather. The buffet breakfast was adequate with a selection of cereals, pastries, bread, cold meats, fruit and hot and cold drinks. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only (very) minor negative comments I would make are that firstly the hotel is situated on the second floor of the building and as far as we could see there wasn't a lift. This was not a problem for us but could potentially be for some guests. Also, as the hotel is so small any noise that is made at reception or the dining room can be heard in the nearby rooms. Again though this wasn't a major issue. Overall we enjoyed our experience of Hotel Emma and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Very nice hotel, a bit farther than ideal.
We spent 2 nights at Hotel Emma. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was basic but adequate. Outside patio was nice, beds were comfortable, staff was friendly. Very good value for the price. The only drawback was that it was a bit far from the city center and we had to take a bus into the city (bus picks up and drops off at Santa Maria Novella train station) - however, the bus stop truly was directly in front of the hotel, so this was not too much of a hassle. We enjoyed our stay here and I would stay here again for the price.

Good for the wallet
Very clean hotel. I picked based on reviews of other travelers. It is not close to the main sites, but several bus stops nearby if you don't feel like walking. We did a combination of both - walking and bus. One person said to go to track 12 from the train station, and we did this, but there was no way to get out of the station and had to go back to the main entrance. It is really very close to the train station. It is on the second floor as other reviewers noted, but there are more like 4 flights of steps to go up, so if you are not traveling light, you should keep this in mind. The reception area is secure as are all the rooms. You need to be buzzed in. I liked this and felt it added an additional layer of security. Our room did not have a view, but there was quite a nice outside patio area at the end of the floor. We did not take advantage of this as we were out and about except for sleeping.

Quiet location about 45 minutes from train station. Good bus service from right outside hotel. Hotel was very clean and well organised. Room was clean and comfortable. Air conditioning was effective. Breakfast room was lovely and bright and breakfast was adequate. There's also a little terrace balcony where you can sit. Staff / owner very helpful. Even got a small gift when we left!

Only recommend this place to your enemy!
First of all the supposed hotel is up 4 flights of stairs and it has 9 rooms. This could hardly be called a hotel since it seems that the "hallway" was once a commercial space that was converted into these sub standard" "Prison Cells" that could hardly be called rooms. I got the worst room because as the owner reminded me I booked through the internet, so there seemed to be some resentment there. He asked me that I could not request a different room, my only option was to leave and get no refund. He refused to give me one of the "cells" that had a bathroom so he made sure I had the worst room in this hallway. The shared bathroom was all the way down the hall the Hall incidently was nosiy, smoky! Forget about asking for a non smoking room they do not exist , you can smell everyone's smoking and it seeps through the door and walls. The walls are so thin I could hear the person in next room snoring. The shower booth in the room (no toliet though)had black mold at the bottom and the cheap rug of the room was flithy so much I had to wipe my feet before getting on the springy, back killing pad that passed as a mattress which was on a squeaky metal thin spring frame. Lastly, the air conditioning is at the mercy of the control freak who runs the place who believes that since I only paid less than what he wanted for the "cell" asking for the air conditioner to be comfortable seemed out of the question and "not possible". The guy is a misogynist who runs the little boarding hall way, this place can hardly be called a hotel and should not be an option on this website.

Reasonable
This hotel is reasonably priced just outside the downtown core a short bus ride on bus 11 or 17 from the train station. Rooms are basic but comfortable and breakfast is included. There are only about 10 rooms and owners are very helpful. Not luxury and not slumming it but ok. Close to athletic complexs and pool if required.

Nice but noisy.
The hotel was a good walk from the centre of Florence but we did it for 4 days no problem. The room was nice, very clean and slept 3. Nice bathroom, great shower. Breakfast was lovely. The only downside was the noise. We were in room 9 which was right next to the entrance and reception. You could hear every coming and going and every word of every discussion being held at reception. Would recommend for a short stay but ask for any other room then 9!

Lovely Owner
Hotel Emma turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Europe. Though the room was small compared to others, and maybe not so comfortable, the atmosphere and, in particular, the owner/operator made up for any inconvenience. He is just a wonderful man, and made us the best cappuccino for breakfast every morning! If you are looking for a BnB with great value and oozing with charm, this is it!!! We would definitely go back.

Stay was nice and pleasant. If you wish to stay away from the city noise, save some money for equally good quality it's best to stay outside of the city center. The hotel is very nice and good value for the price. Next to the hotel there is nice pizzeria (the best I ate during the stay) and also ice cream shop on the main road. Max 10 minutes bus ride from the central station

Pleasant Hotel
Pleasant Hotel about 1 mile from centre of Florence. The rooms were nicely decorated, spacious and clean. We were a little disappointed with the bathroom decor and the old shower curtain, but generally clean and had everything we needed. Loud music being played outside during day time - turned out to be dance classes being run in the neighbouring building. Be reassured it was quiet at night. On arrival we found the hotel manager wasn't very friendly/personable, but he did help us with a lot of our questions about the area/where to go/what to do/transport etc. I would definitely recommend this as a cheaper alternative to the higher priced more central accommodation.

Not within walking distance to the scenery points but has bus to the train station and the bus station is just next to the hotel. The room is small, and the bath room is small too but both are sufficiently clean. Free wi-fi is provided but if you do not use it for three minutes it will ask you to input the username and password, every time! An old fashioned tv in the room and the one one our room does not work at all. Not big deals anyway. The breakfast is really good. No water provided in the room and no kettle provided as well. Can buy the water directly from the owner. Not a very decent one but considering the price and the relatively convenient transportation, it is recommended if you wish to stay in Florence for more than one night, for the sake of saving money.

Average, pretty much average
Nothing truly special about Hotel Emma, nor too wrong. It's pretty run of the mill. Situated a fair away out of Florence, takes a bus and a walk to reach the heart of the city. Staff were not initially overly friendly, but warmed during the stay. The food at breakfast was pretty good, but the coffee wasn't too great. Value for money wise, it's probably quite good for Florence (in Summer). Biggest con was that my room shared walls with the internal (echoing) stairwell, the dining room and the street, so was fairly noisy.

Comfortable hotel close to the city
My husband and I stayed here on a recent trip to Florence. We chose Hotel Emma because of its great price point, proximity to the city, and free wifi & continental breakfast. Hotel Emma did not disappoint! This hotel is great for single travelers and young couples. The people that run this hotel were very accommodating. The breakfast was definitely more than I expected, and the gentleman that runs the hotel made the coffee to perfection. He helped us with catching the bus and how to get around the city. We loved our stay here, this was definitely our favorite place we stayed at while touring Europe. We hope to be back someday!

Very nice hotel if a little noisy
A very nice hotel slightly outside of the centre of Florence. The best things: it is a nice clean simple hotel at a good price. Its only about 25 minute walk to the centre of Florence and has bus stops very near by if you prefer. Local area is quite quiet although it has a great little pizza place next door if you need a late snack or quite night. The hotel also has a great little court yard. The worst things: We spent one night in the room at the front of the hotel which is very noisy. The great little pizza place also has a takeaway arm so scooters buzz around all night and then early in the morning buses start turning up early outside. We spent the rest of our time at the back of the hotel which is much quieter - although saying that we had an amorous couple next door for one night and it didn't sound like they were next door! I think the walls must be quite thin! So either way take some ear plugs.

Owner seems to work 25 hours a day. Quiet man at first until you need him for something and then he is really helpful and friendly. Such a cute hotel for a great price. Great breakfast in the morning. This hotel was the best value, and maybe even the best hotel on our 10 day night trip in Europe.

Great wee hotel.
Our stay was short, but Hotel Emma was perfect for us. We'd previously stayed at a hotel in the centre of Florence and were a bit apprehensive about the distance the hotel was from the centre, but this was not a problem as the bus stop into town was seconds round the corner and the return bus stopped right outside the door. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful and made the 2 nights we were there very pleasant. The only, minor, issue we found was that the hotel was on the 2nd floor, a pain when you're lugging large suitcases but you only do that when you arrive first and check out. We'll definitely consider this hotel again next time we go to Firenze.

Our stay at the Emma
We enjoyed our stay at the Emma. The innkeeper was very helpful, with restaurant recommendations. The light breakfast in the morning was good, complete with cappucinos. There are 3 flights of stairs which makes carrying luggage upstairs difficult. They did, however, offer assistance. The location is right on the bus line, accessible out the front door. We found a parking garage across the street which gave us a discount as we are the Emma. The price was excellent and we think it was a good value for the price.

Great Value Hotel
We stayed at Hotel Emma for 3 nights. It is a little bit of a hike from Firenze Santa Maria Novella station, but is 10-15 minutes walk from Firenze Campo Di Marte or there is a bus stop right outside. However, without luggage, it's a nice 15 minute walk to Piazza San Marco, and no need to bus. The hotel is located on the second level and there is a clear sign. There is a great pizza and pasta place opposite that is cheap just 1 minute walk down the road, just ask at reception. Overall, very clean and comfortable, and decent location for those who happy to take a short walk. Pros: Very clean, decent location for those who are able/willing to walk to the city centre or take the train/bus, very good value Cons: If you are taking the bus, clarify with the hotel what number and stop. Trains to Firenze Campo di Marte are every hour or so, make sure you check at Firenze Santa Maria Novella. Room is a little on the small side - but still very comfortable
