Foxfield: train leaving for Whitehaven, 1998. View northwards, up Dunnerdale towards Coniston ahead - to which the now vanished ex-Furness Railway branch used to go until 6/4/62, the passenger service having ceased since 6/10/58. The Class 153 DMU, on a Carnforth - Barrow-in-Furness - Whitehaven service on the ex-Furness Railway main line, will very soon curve left to cross the Duddon Viaduct, then go south to Millom before continuing up the coast to Whitehaven. Note the weed-strewn tracks. In the distance are Thwaites Fell (1,001 ft.), Burn Moor (1,780 ft.) and Whitwell (1,861 ft.).
