The Caledonian Island Hotel

"Absolutely appalling experience at the Caledonian Hotel, Isle of Wight. We arrived at 2:50 PM and were still made to wait until 3:05 PM because of their ridiculous “3 PM means 3 PM” policy. When we politely asked if we could check in just 10 minutes early, the receptionist responded rudely and dismissively: “I have told you 3 PM means 3 PM.” There was no courtesy, no flexibility, and certainly no customer service — despite the hotel clearly having plenty of rooms available. To make matters worse, we requested a table fan on arrival and were told it would be sent to the room within 10 minutes. That never happened. After repeatedly waiting and following up, we only got the fan late in the evening — and even then, we had to go and collect it ourselves from reception. The staff attitude was cold, rude, and completely unhelpful. Hospitality clearly means nothing here. A hotel stay should feel welcoming, not like you’re inconveniencing the staff by simply asking for basic service. Very disappointing experience and definitely not somewhere I would recommend."

"Regarding breakfast - being vegetarian the options were very limited and portion size was also small. After asking for more it was told they it's fixed food size and extra means extra price. I think breakfast option should be more appropriate and it's handling should be done more appropriate like other hotels as it is not good to restrict the person for eating when they are paying so much for the stay."

"The restaurant staff was very friendly but reception was more like “This is it, take it or leave it”… We asked support for our son to have a quick shower as he felt unwell under the sun, just 5 minutes after we checked out ( at a time earlier than 11 am check out time) they showed no empathy The second bed was extremely uncomfortable. "

"Rooms were average Breakfast- super delayed , all dishes were dirty- not just one or two. We stayed for two nights , both the mornings the breakfast was so delayed and they couldn’t manage the number of guests. The staff tried their best to give us good service but there was only so much they could. Poor management Wouldn’t recommend to stay here"

"I highly recommend staying at this hotel . Friendly, very helpful staff ,. The room was spotlessly clean . And only very short distance from.the beach and all the amenities . I shall be going back"

"Not as described in the picture. Noise from Sports Car Fest holidaying on our park and smell of cannabis near our caravan. Have stated in better here for less money. Also, no entertainment until Sumner months."

"Arrived at hotel early evening, got to room to find tv not working, spoke to receptionist who looked at it whilst we were out for food, I told them it wasn't too much of a problem as I could use my laptop. Returned to hotel reception stated there was a problem with the TV. I said it was ok ill use my laptop. Room was basic with a handbag in the room separate from the shower in toilet, fan in shower stays on for an hour fater Turing all off, theres a constant blue light coming from an electric mirror that you cannot turn off, then there are 2 very bright spotlights shining up at the hotel from the front which emit so much light, that comes through sides and top of closed curtains. I tried to explain this the the manager in the morning who was really quite aggressive towards me.. stating tv was working etc, it was me not turning it all on correctly, even though I was told by night receptionist it wasn't working, 10 mins later the night receptionist had an aggressive go at me too... all in all a very poor night's sleep plus very very poor customer service skills by the management."
