Wander peaceful streets lined with traditional Japanese homes away from urban bustle. Historic temples define this area's character. Hase-dera Temple welcomes visitors with its towering wooden Kannon statue and hillside gardens. The nearby Great Buddha sits serenely among ancient trees. Temple bells and ocean waves create a soothing soundtrack throughout this authentic Japanese coastal community.

This historic coastal district preserves the essence of a traditional Japanese fishing village. Koshigoe Harbor stretches along Sagami Bay with wooden piers and weathered fishing boats. The neighborhood connects to Japan's feudal past through sites like the ancient Koshigoe Checkpoint ruins. Along the waterfront promenade, visitors can stroll with stunning views of Enoshima Island. Katase Higashihama Beach offers seaside relaxation while temples and shrines dot the hillsides. Literary enthusiasts appreciate the monument to famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho who once wrote about these crashing waves.

Hase

Step into Kamakura's Hase neighborhood where ancient temples and spiritual heritage create a timeless Japanese experience. The 13th-century bronze Great Buddha sits majestically in Kotoku-in's peaceful courtyard. Nearby, Hase-dera Temple cascades down hillsides with thousands of stone jizo statues and stunning seasonal hydrangeas. Traditional tea houses serve authentic Buddhist vegetarian cuisine amid serene temple gardens. Narrow, contemplative streets connect sacred sites where temple bells echo across the landscape. Morning brings local worshippers while afternoon welcomes respectful visitors, maintaining the district's perfect balance of active worship and thoughtful tourism.

Ofuna

Ofuna connects travelers with its major transit hub and iconic white Buddhist statue. This authentic Japanese neighborhood balances quiet residential streets with excellent railway connections. The towering Ofuna Kannon Temple creates a dramatic focal point against surrounding green hills. Temple grounds offer peaceful gardens for contemplation while local shops and eateries cluster near the station. Trains depart frequently to Tokyo, Yokohama and Kamakura. The neighborhood maintains its genuine suburban Japanese character with minimal tourist infrastructure beyond the temple.

Kamakurayama

When in Kamakurayama, you can plan a visit to Hasedera and Gokurakuji Temple, some noteworthy sights in the nearby area.

"Beautiful luxury hotel overlooking Yokohama Harbour. Big bright room, comfortable beds, walkable area, excellent staff. We arrived mid morning off the Diamond Princess with heavy bulky luggage. Hotel stored our bags and delivered them to our room before check in was completed! Not overpriced, no complaints about anything."

10/10 Excellent
"The property was very clean and the staff were very kind and polite! We went down most mornings for the breakfast! There is a bar right there that you can every day sit from 5:30 to 6:30 for happy hour and have free beer! Everything there is kinda on this small side in Japan, but the rooms large enough to relax and shower ! I was therefore exploring and didn’t plan on spending all my time in my hotel room! I even got dinner there a few times and it was very good! I stayed there for two weeks and I was on the second floor, which is right next to the laundry room, which was nice! I really enjoyed the rooftop! I like to go to the 10th floor and grab me a drink from their drink machine and then sit out there on the rooftop and just watch the sky and stars and look over the side. The staff there was very friendly and accommodating! The location was right next to Kawasaki Metro! Plenty of shopping, plenty of bars, close to 7-eleven as well as Lawson’s! I would highly recommend it if you’re not really looking for luxury, but a clean and comfortable place to relax and rest your head!"

Both check in and check out are done through a machine but I had a staff member helping me since most of the instructions were in Japanese. The room was small but clean and the bed was comfortable.
