Crater Lake in Oregon is one of those iconic locations that is a must visit for everyone. Formed as a result of the collapse of Mount Mazama thousands of years ago and from rainwater and snowmelt that accumulated in the caldera left behind.

The water in Crater Lake is blue, startlingly deep blue in color and on a still day, the lake is supposed to appear like a mirror. This time around, when I visited this location with a couple of friends, one of them a fellow Trover, it was rather windy and we didn't really have calm days to see the mirror like effect of the lake. Nevertheless it was a magical location. It is perfect for any kind of astronomical event (meteor shower, supermoon) because it is very far away from major sources of light pollution and because you're relatively high up, the scattering effect of the atmosphere is somewhat lower (on a clear day i.e.). I was at Crater Lake around early October - if you're trying to attempt astrophotography with the milky way, a better time might be during the months of May - July.

This location is very easy to get to - it's just off the North Rim Drive. This particular photograph involved capturing a whole multitude of shots to get both the iconic tree and the milky way in the finished frame, which took me over 20 hours to process owing to the number of frames involved (I still keep tweaking it). It is one of the most challenging images I've had to process in the pursuit of this hobby but also one of the most satisfying.

Thank you for stopping by and for the support.

Sunset on the way to Fort Klamath from Crater lake. Had no choice but to pull over the car and see the sun sink down. Red , orange violet color sky with wast empty lands , hay , birds flying and horse stables. Very very beautiful views.
