Rooms were big and spacious clean just needed a bit of tlc we stayed in room 103 and the ceiling tile was in need of replacing as it had water damage and was exposed noticeably,the patio curtains was smeard with makeup? And the shower leaked water due to poor design fault. We went to the spa area and again this too could do with a refurb in the ceiling area as it was hanging down in certain places. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Great trip at lovely resort

Lovely resort and very kind and accomodating staff. It would be ideal for a golf vacation. We're visiting the area from US and really enjoyed the trip. Breakfast buffet was excellent with beautiful views of golf course. The hotel pool was one of the nicest that we have ever seen. The room was very spacious and the bathroom modern with a big soaking tub. Close to traditional English pubs and beautiful hiking trails near the beach. A short drive to Southport, highly recommend/

Beautiful setting and location with an upgrade to a beautiful loft room after a bumpy check in (as couldn’t find my Expedia confirmation). Staff were very friendly and efficient throughout and food and service in the restaurant was excellent. Two prom events made for an unexpected noisy evening, but all finished by 11pm. Gym and pool fabulous. A few minor bits of maintenance needed in a few areas. Overall, had a fantastic and restful one night break and would definitely visit again (but on a quieter night next time).

The terrace room was lovely, great views onto the golf course, lots of space and a very very comfortable bed. Unfortunately, the corridor smelt of smoke and was very noisy at night with guests coming back at all times during the evening. In the spa area - the pool was freezing and the steam room smelt terrible. Breakfast was average. But other than that it was nice. The driving range was fun

Kept getting better

Great stay and service all round! We had travelled 4hrs up from London for a friends birthday and the hotel facilitated an early checkin so we were able to get ready in comfort. The staff were friendly and swift in sorting out checkin. I have stayed in many hotels and one thing that always lets them down in the practical nature of the room. They might be stylish in design but the light is never near the mirror or the power to where you want to do your hair is missing or the natural light is always on the otherside of the room. Not the case in the loft room we had, its was perfectly laid out. Moving to the very large bathroom, super clean and stylish bathroom we continued to be impressed not least by the large power shower with clever button for either the handheld or over head option. No chance of getting hair wet if not needed like most turn handle options. I cant speak highly enough about this hotel and will definitely be booking again when next in Formby.

Terrible service and disappointing stay

Appalling service. My partner arrived late (which I had informed reception about), he was not allowed up despite having the booking name and room number. He was spoken to rudely, asked insulting questions and told that he had to go outside to ring me. He wasn’t able to call me as he had no signal and was waiting for about 20 minutes until I luckily came down and found him. The receptionist said she tried to call but there was no phone in our room and no-one came to check. I can only assume this was because we are not the ‘usual’ clientele and because he had his work clothes on. In the same breath, I felt extremely judged when I went on my own to book the golf course and was looked and up and down and asked without a greeting you haven’t played golf, have you? Or do you know someone you want to book for. I'd also be careful of the golf clubs, as one broke when we were using it and nearly swung in my face. To add to matters, an extra £142.50 has been taken from my account without explanation. I have called x7 all week but no-one answers, despite leaving messages. I found this previous to our stayed when I called x4 to reserve spa treatments and golf. I gave up in the end and went without spa treatments. Very disappointing.

Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. There was water in the mini fridge and a Nespresso machine for coffee. I would highly recommend the Housekeeping Team, they do an amazing job. We have been staying at Formby Hall for 20 years or so and the one thing that has let it down has been the food quality and breakfast service, so this stay we were very pleased to see the improvements made to the whole breakfast experience. There was fresh fruit, excellent pastries, good quality bread for toasting. I didn't try the cooked option but we could see other guests enjoying it. The waiting staff were very polite and tried to provide quick service. This morning the hotel was full and breakfast crowded which meant we had to wait a long time for our pots of tea. However, this is a vast improvement on previous stays when you had to get your own tea /coffee from a very cheap machine. All the staff were well dressed and all had a smile. We are looking forward to our next stay.
