"Staff and location in old town Portland were fantastic"

"When I read the reviews before I visited the Royal Sonesta Portland, I was surprised by how many people commented on the cleanliness and condition of the property. As a frequent traveler that loves old hotels, I know that more often than not, they come with some “issues” that you just have to accept as the trade off for the charm and quirkiness. Whether it is peeling wallpaper, grungy caulk in the shower, or dusty chandeliers, it is always something. So I took the reviews with a grain of salt. Well, not so the Royal Sonesta Portland. The place is spotless and in fantastic shape. From the lobby sitting area that people actually hung out in, playing chess, playing piano and socializing, to the to the decor of the guest floors and rooms, the place is completely charming. The staff was awesome. Friendly and helpful. The only negative comment is the breakfast. Very limited selection though the food was OK. Come on guys, you could at least add a toaster with some bread that is not a pastry. It was cheap though ($15)… for hotel standards. Even with that issue, I still give the place a 12 on a scale of 10."

"Location! In the Pearl District walking distance to Saturday Market, shopping, and many great restaurants. Not far from the train station, also. We may arrive by tran the next time. The hotel is clean and the staff was very helpful. Our room had a nice design. The complementary breakfast was OK, but not as good as the one at the Hampton Inn in Mexico City. We will likely stay here again."

"Staff was friendly, always greeting us as we passed by, and checking in with us. Rooms were clean and spacious with a great view. First floor had tea and coffee available for us at any time of the day. The location was ideal! Close enough to walk everywhere or catch the max/bus. We love going to the movies and Regal cinemas was right across the street, very convenient. We used the overnight parking for $25 which was extremely close to the hotel "

"Very friendly staff, the building has character and clearly has love in its design. Minor notes of age (rust on the shower’s shampoo bottle nozzle for example), but would happily stay again."
