"This is an old hotel but it was very clean and we loved the location in downtown Kona. We could walk to restaurants and bars. We paid for a very nice corner room with a huge lanai. The surf crashed below. We also made use of the tennis courts. The Mai Tai bar was good and the food while not high end was well prepared. Staff were nice."
"The overall hotel wasn’t bad but not very good. The disappointment was that our room and other visitors rooms were not ready and we arrived two hours past check in. They moved us to another room (downgrade) that had no scenery and was at the end of a service corridor (room 017). We had to pass by the workers lunch room, go by all the laundry carts that are stored in the corridor, and had a hidden entry at the end. Noisy due to the activity and maintenance area being right outside our door. Although this was the least expensive room on the property we did not receive a credit for the involuntary downgrade. Room smelled strongly of mold. One staff member said, “are you sure you want to give them that room”. Staff was ok but not inviting. We moved to a different property the following day which was a great experience. "
"Beautiful place making our first visit to the island such a peaceful, relaxing stay!
I enjoyed the open windows in our room.
There was no air conditioning, but fans were provided. We visited during February and the temperatures would get down in the 60s at night.
The only time we saw other guests was during breakfast or at night during our return. My favorite memory was the coqui frogs you can hear at night and the fresh baked goods put out every morning. "
