Our children enjoyed meeting the various animals and the setting was very convenient and quiet. Regarded as one of the most impressive castles in Wales, visitors to Carew Castle can trace the structure’s history from Norman fortifications to when it became an Elizabethan country home owned by Sir John Perrot, possibly an illegitimate son of Henry VIII, before its eventual abandonment in the 17th Century. Several notable features have resulted, including earthworks created by Royalist defenders during the Civil War and window frames dating to Tudor times that were made of imported Cotswold stone that stands out against the local limestone used for the rest of the building.

"A beautiful sea view room with a beautiful bathroom all very newly refurbished. We found the fridge very useful too, as we brought our own milk but the supply of tea and coffee a bit mean 2 teabags per day the same with coffee. The lift needs replacing, we found it very rickety. Breakfast was a bit disappointing for the money we were charged."

"The instructions on how to enter the property and find our room were clear and easy to follow. The hotel inside and out, was tidy and presentable. Paths had been swept and the downstairs lobby and lounge area were welcoming. Lights had been left on, even though it was only early evening. Our room was spotless. No dust, no bits on the carpet and the bathroom had been properly cleaned. The bed linen and towels were white and very clean. No frayed edges on the towels or shabby looking materials. There was also a good selection of nice toiletries. Yes, the hotel is in need of updating, however, the owners are clearly doing their best. I would like to congratulate them on what they have achieved and wish them every success. They are clearly working hard with the resources they have and deserve to succeed. The breakfast area was immaculate. The couple of plates we'd seen the previous night had been removed. There was a good selection of cereals, yogurts, fruit juice, pastries, bread and fresh fruit. Everything had been thought about and carefully prepared. It did feel lonely with there being no staff present at all during our visit. It would have been nice to have had a friendly face to welcome us as we arrived and at breakfast. For a cooked meal, the Dial Inn is within walking distance. Great, tasty food and lovely atmosphere. Advisable to book, if you want food, as it gets very busy."
