"I had no idea what I was getting into. This is a super cool hotel if you want a true Japanese Onsen experience. You start with taking your shoes off and doning either pajamas they provide or your pick of Kimonos ( not sure if what men wear are Kimonos but nonetheless) which they also have for you. Then you head off to either a private bath ( pick the third or the 5th one if you want to be outside)or the public bath ( split for men and women). After bathing you can get a massage, have a traditional dinner or change and walk into town and see the Bamboo forest, temple, take a river boat ride or shop and eat. Plenty to do. It is on the one side of the City and the Golden Temple and the big food market is on the opposite side. To go to the Golden Temple requires you take the train that is across the street 3 stops, transfer and work your way into the opposite side of the city. Assume its an hour if you time all the trains right. Overall, it was an awesome experience!"

"Perfect contrast from the bustle of Tokyo and Osaka! But, this also means not much is open close by so need to walk a bit for dinner. Phone said we got almost 30k steps after wandering the bamboo forest, monkey park, temples, etc. "

"We used Ben's as a base for our Japan stay for two weeks(multiple nights in other cities). It was a clean and tidy traditional style room. The location was at a quiet area of Kyoto, but was convenient for travel into the centre of Kyoto and the station. Plenty of shops and dining nearby. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would happily stay there again."

"Great Ryokan experience for our family. Our space was very spacious with two rooms and a large clean bathroom with the toilet, sink and shower/bath areas separate which helps when there are four in your party! Fresh towels were delivered daily. We had a private garden to enjoy in the morning and although further out of town, there were a few bus options that worked for us and we would definitely stay here again if we found ourselves in Kyoto again. "

"Everything was great here! Just a heads up, there’s a ¥2,000 fee due upon arrival (it caught me off guard). However, the staff is fantastic, just like this beautiful city."

"A great ryokan with very friendly staff. The Japanese breakfast was the best we had in Japan! Our room was nice, clean, and had an amazing view. Great location! "

"This is a no frills hotel, but we really enjoyed our stay. You can hear if you have a heavy walking upstairs neighbor, but throughout the night it was pretty quiet. There are great laundry facilities onsite that were super easy to use and you don’t have to buy detergent. You just download an app and pay and monitor progress through the app—it was great! "
