Fairfield Moravian Settlement. The Moravian church was founded in what is now the Czech Republic by followers of the reformer, John Huss. It claims to be the oldest protestant movement in Europe and was a pioneer of protestant missions. The Fairfield Moravian Church and its surrounding settlement was founded in Droylsden in 1785 by Benjamin La Trobe as a centre for evangelistic work in the Manchester area.
