" To whom it may concern, I am writing to formally demand a full refund for the final four nights of my stay at Umi Tulum (February 21, 22, 23 and 24), following a severe security breach and management's failure to provide a habitable, secure environment. The Incident: On the night of Saturday, February 21, the lock on our primary entrance—a beachfront sliding glass door—failed completely. At 12:00 AM, hotel staff spent 90 minutes drilling the lock out of the door. From 1:30 AM on Saturday until our checkout on Tuesday, February 24, our room remained entirely unsecured. The door opened freely from the outside with no functioning locking mechanism. Failure to Remedy: Despite being told the lock would be repaired by Monday, no repairs were ever made. We remained in an unsecured room for three consecutive nights. Furthermore, this occurred during an active military operation and while the US Embassy had issued a "shelter-in-place" advisory for American citizens in the region. The hotel’s inability to provide a locking door during a period of heightened civil unrest is a gross violation of basic safety standards and the "Guest Promise" established by Expedia. Staff went above and beyond with making sure we had everything that we needed and made our room spotless every day."

"The staff here are all wonderful and welcoming. They work very hard to make sure.your stay is comfortable. Our room was nice except for the gap in the sliding door. We found a few big beetles in the room as well as a small gecko. None of this ruined our stay but I feel this door should be replaced as most of the other doors have been. The food was excellent and drinks were nice as well. It was our first time at a non all inclusive so the daily money spending was something to get used to. There are stores and restaurants within walking distance so we visited those as well. The pool and grounds were well kept and there were plenty of seats and beach lounges on the beach. We would stay again but maybe a shorter stay snd move throughout Tulum. "

"This place was paradise. Stayed for 4 nights in a beachside suite with my daughter. So peaceful and safe. Often left the door unlocked. Hammock on the balcony and easy barefoot walk to the beach cabanas. The staff were kind and helpful. Fabian took care of security and maintenance and checked us in when we arrived after hours. Alex was in the cafe and was cheerful and helpful each day. Griselda cleaned our room for us and was a delight to talk to. I can’t wait to return! "
