St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum Tours

St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum showing general coastal views and a sunset
Enjoy spectacular views from the top of this lighthouse and learn about the history of the nation’s oldest port.

Visit the iconic St. Augustine Lighthouse and take in scenic views of the surrounding beaches and the Atlantic Ocean. Take a tour and explore the building’s history. Learn about the lives of the lighthouse keepers and the sailors they helped protect. Stroll around the grounds and enjoy the nature trails.

The St. Augustine Lighthouse is a distinctive, black-and-white-striped building that stands 165 feet (50 meters) above sea level. Built in 1874, it has played an important role in the history of America’s oldest port.

Climb the 219 steps to the top of the lighthouse and be rewarded with one of the most spectacular coastal views in Florida. Cast your eye out to sea and imagine the ships of the first settlers making their way towards land. Information about the history of the lighthouse is positioned at various points, so you can learn a lot from a self-guided tour.

The lighthouse also offers several organized tours. The monthly Sunset Moonrise tour takes you to the top, where you can enjoy a view of the sunset and full moon with a glass of champagne. If you are interested in the supernatural, take the Dark of the Moon tour and hear ghost stories from the building’s past.

Head to the museum to discover artifacts and learn about the restoration of the lighthouse. Exhibitions on boat building and detailed models are among the highlights.

Children will enjoy the various activity stations around the grounds where they can learn skills like tying a maritime knot. Take a stroll around the nature trails or enjoy a picnic on one of the lawns.

The St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum is open every day except Christmas and Thanksgiving. There is a small charge for entry, which goes towards the preservation of the building. It is a short drive south from the town center, just past the Alligator Farm.
