"We loved staying at Mikansei! Our room was clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed ourselves in the shared spaces, including the kitchen, bathrooms, and communal areas. Our hosts, Claire and Shiro, were incredibly gracious, sharing their knowledge about the Oi river valley and Japan in general, as well as their time, and taking an interest in their guests. They gave us some great advice on making a our day trip up the valley on the Oigawa Railway even better, and invited us to a group dinner / cooking class with other house guests and as a friend from the village. We felt very welcome and taken care of. This is such a beautiful area to explore, and Mikansei made a perfect home base. I only wish we'd had more time there."

"Staff were very helpful when i checked in here. I did get the impression they dont get too many overseas travellers but this did not stop them from being friendly and providing the service they would provide anyone staying there. This place also advertised a public bath available which i regretfully did not use as i was not there long enough. I was only here for one night on a stop but when i took a stroll around the neighbourhood i felt very safe and there were plenty of convenience stores. Local travel felt a bit limited but that has nothing to do with the hotel itself."

"Excellent private stay with extraordinarily beautiful view. Host so responsive and knowledgeable of the area and was able to connect us for local tea farm tour. "

"The best part of the room was the shower - look for the waterfall shower-head -- an unexpected luxury in an otherwise very basic room. I found the bed and pillow to be quite hard, and the breakfast was very basic Japanese fare (onigiri, miso soup, plain bun). "
