Beautiful house, nice host!
Joan was good host and she cooked tasty meals every morning. The house location was proper to move granville island, down town, UBC. The street was calm, safe and pretty. Backyard and every floors of house were clean and nasty.

Host, Joanne was very welcoming and helpful. Some guests very noisy in late evening.

A fantastic stay! There is space, style, warmth and welcome at House on Dunbar. Joanne is a fantastic host, and her breakfasts can't be topped. The neighbourhood is elegant and wealthy and I was a bit intimidated but we were made totally welcome. Will return again and heartily recommend this lovely bed and breakfast.

Dont take a bath
The bed was poor. Room hot. Air conditioner very noisy. Electric wires everywhere. Bath was leathal. I fell badly in it. Generally its a 5 / 10 experience

It smelled like mold. The air quality was poor. There was visible mold I include pictures on Google since Expedia let's people pay to hide unflattering reviews. The owner said Vancouver is damp and it always smells like this. I live in Oregon and know damp smells well. I also worked in housing law and know mold when I see it. Unsympathetic when we complained about respiratory irritation.

(+) Well located and quiet. (-) Dusty spider webs all around the room. Humidity smell. Cold/humid breakfast area & dirty floor / counter (basement). Fruit flies in the garbage can. No access to backyard (under construction). Stained towels.

I am so sorry that my B&B did not meet your expectations. I continuously strive to maintain the highest standards. If you read my other reviews, most of my guests agree that I achieve that goal. I agree that there are some spiders in my home. This is simply a part of life in Vancouver; spiders are everywhere, always. I continuously dust the cobwebs away but they always come back. I deny that my home is dirty. My cleaning is meticulous. If you note the comments from other guests, they attest to the same. Vancouver is a humid city. I have no control over the weather. This humidity is not exclusive to my home alone. I looked for the stained towels that you referenced and did not find them. I have stated on the Expedia website as well as on my confirmation email to you that construction of a laneway house is in progress. You implicitly accepted this if you made your reservation. Joanne provided a wonderful guide for touring the best sites along with directions to each site (public transportation or car). She cooked fabulous breakfast, accommodating my diet with eggwhite vegetable omelettes and the best pancakes I have ever eaten. The entire B+B experience was wonderful. The B+B is on a lovely tree-lined street and provides easy access to all touring. I give House on Dunbar my highest evaluation.

The snoopy owner!
Absolutely no Privacy...the owner of the properly lives upstairs and there is no door between the upstairs and the downstairs unit. The Owner comes down constantly, both when your there and when your in your room and after hours when your attempting to sleep at night.

Snooping? Not a chance! My time is too precious to engage is such ridiculous behaviour. House On Dunbar is a B&B and as such, my presence is required to run my business: making and serving breakfast, cleaning, laundry and interacting with my other guests that wish to do so. Your room was the only area that you were entitled exclusive right to. All the other area is communal.

Not Great Value
I have mixed feelings about this B&B. Our impression of the landlady did not get off to a great start when she insisted we remove our shoes on entering the house, even though it was dry outside. The other guests asked for a cooked breakfast at 8:15 rather than the fixed 8:45, but she refused to accommodate them, and only offered a continental breakfast prepared the night before and left in the fridge. The cooked breakfasts were OK, but a standard English breakfast would have been preferable to the fancy but not well executed options. For example, the quiche had the filling but no crust and the frittata had way too much red pepper. The homemade juice was like sludge - fresh OJ would have been better. The house itself had obviously been extensively renovated but the use of tile everywhere made the house generally noisy. The bedroom was fairly small, the bed was uncomfortable, and the wifi was non-existent there. The Landlady had no control over the air conditioning broken by the previous guest, or the noise at 5 am from the neighbors six puppies, but that all contributed to a lack of sleep and a less than ideal stay. Overall, this B&B is not good value for money.

It is stated on my website that I have a "no shoes" policy in my home. I am sorry that this frustrated you. My B&B consistently receives rave reviews about my breakfasts: “most glorious and healthy breakfasts”, “amazing breakfasts!”, “breakfast was well presented and delicious”, “delicious and nutritious breakfasts”, “ Breakfasts were hearty and tasty”, “amazing talent in cooking”. It is unfortunate that you do not agree. I have extensively renovated my home and most of my guests comment on how calm, peaceful and beautiful it is. It is unfortunate that you did not view the photos on my website as my place was not a good fit for your tastes.

Good Breakfasts in Quiet Location
This is a nice B&B, located a few long blocks from the nearest bus line, in a quiet, residential neighborhood, not too far from UBC. Joanne, the host, was welcoming and provided nice amenities, including a tasty and well prepared breakfast each morning. The location is rather far from downtown, but the public transportation system is good if you are able to walk to the bus.

House on Dunbar B&B
This was a comfortable bed & breakfast. The room was comfortable with a nice backyard for relaxing and a private family room for watching TV. The breakfasts prepared by the host were good. She would make fresh fruits and a smoothie each day along with a featured breakfast meal. The host kept to herself but was helpful when we had questions. When I needed some things printed, she had me email them to her and she would print them for me. The neighborhood is quiet and walking distance to public transportation and a nice Italian restaurant where we had dinner twice.

This house was amazing extremely clean, pretty, decorated super stylish, breakfast was amazing and Ms Joan was so respectful, nice, attentive and professional, and very organized. My son who is 21 loved it and said te owner was the nicest person, he loved her breakfast !!! We would love to stay there again, amazing experience. Very relaxing atmosphere. Little sanctuary just 15 mins away from downtown
Quite a bit out of downtown but only about a mile to Jericho beach and 2 miles to Kitsilano, this adorable B&B was a gem of a find. Super quiet and comfy, what it lacked in proximity to downtown, it made up in price. Cabs to downtown were about $20, and I know there was bus service available also (which I did not use). My room had its own washroom with a shower as well as its own TV. The common sitting area had a big screen TV and comfy couches to hang out on. My favorite though, was the backyard and the outdoor lounging space. Such an amazing sanctuary! The owner was really sweet and provided both continental as well as hot breakfast every morning. There were also snacks, coffee, and tea aplenty, which was probably bad news for my waist size. I was very happy with my stay, and would definitely go back.

My stay at the Dunbar B&B
I visited Vancouver to attend my niece's graduation from the Univ. of B.C. and stayed at Dunbar B&B for three nights. I was very pleased with everything there. The breakfasts were excellent, even the Continental one. The room, bathroom, etc., were spotless. The neighborhood was very quiet, so I got an excellent night's sleep each night. The owner, Joanne, is a very gracious person and makes sure her guests have everything they need to be comfortable. I would definitely recommend this B&B to anyone looking for accommodation convenient to UBC.
