“We stayed for a night at Royal Swan Ashley Manor. It's a bit of a difficult find (even with satnav) as it's on a relatively fast treed road with little obvious signage. The outside is very unassuming and if you arrive late, you will likely have to find parking on the back lawn (it's fairly smooth and on a hot summer's day is actually preferred because there's shade there). The rooms are not difficult to find, and your room key is an old-fashioned actual key attached to a large plexiglass plate....

“The twin room offered a good sized space for a European property, but otherwise was very disappointing as it was shabby and dated. I knew from the pictures not to expect luxury but it was less attractive in person. The building had the feel of an old roadside motel and I would not have felt safe or secure there if I had been traveling alone. “The breakfast was excellent but wasn't at the Lady Hamilton it was 2 doors down. The double room was tiny, more suited to a single room. There was a very small space between the wall and the bed and care was needed not to nudge the kettle on the way past. No space for furniture although a hanging rail and a few shelves were behind a curtain. There was a stool. To exit the property there was a steep staircase and a fire door that shut behind you. You had to be quick to get out of its way. The bar...

“Owners clearly dedicated to providing a high level of service to guests. Homely feel to rooms and breakfast first class. Extensive grounds with ample parking.”

“There were two restaurants near one Greek and one Latin American we tried the latter and it was good, the Greek one was closed Monday. Staff were welcoming, small family run hotel so personal. Nice bar area. Breakfast was included (continental) but they did offer boiled eggs or bacon bap or sausage bap in the morning.”
