"Check in was lovely. The staff at the property were very friendly and helpful. They had welcome drinks in the lobby after a long drive they were great!
We were assigned room 124. The room had two queen beds. One bed was great, the other was sunken on one side so you had to stay close to the middle or else you would be rolled off. The worst part was the temperature in the room. We ran the A/C on the coldest setting. However, in 24 hours it did not even come close to cooling the room down. We left the window open all night so the overnight spring temps would cool the room. On a hot summer day it would be awful!
The pool is amazing and warm! The hot tubs were set at 40C. We enjoyed the property and we're able to walk to shops for breakfast.
Overall, it was a good stay but for the price tag I would hope for amazing."
"The hotel was good. Beds are comfortable and the little kitchen was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. However, hotel is much older than the photos on the website, so overall it was a bit disappointing."
"Real mixed bag - mattresses very soft, especially sofabed (which, when deployed, impossible to fit two beds, table, chair without blocking access to the door which felt a bit of a fire hazard). Shower curtain rail reattached multiple times, glue-discs from earlier versions still on wall, now so low that curtain draped across floor of the tub - trip hazard.
Food good to great, buffet excellent value, but resto management worst I've seen in decades - of 3 restos claimed, only 1 open. Table setup poor: 2-tops left placed as 4s & 6s but only couples sat, while folks were literally being turned away as 'no tables available'.
At breakfast sat with no coffee for 10mins, no passing server, then after being topped up was revisited twice in <5mins to be offered unneeded extra coffee. Feasted on great cheese, fruit, smoked salmon; bacon overdone, runniest oatmeal I've seen since a staged Oliver Twist gruel scene. Food budget choices = weird!
Staff friendly, but all recent imports with wide range of skill - nice, polite, but very variable in efficiency.
'Eco-friendly' used to excuse no AC - but baseboard heaters & desk fans are far worse than a heatpump; single-use Keurig type coffeemaker in each room; heated pool/hottubs; chocolate fountain at breakfast!? Wasted power at every turn...
Both wife & I worked in a similar small, remote, budget, mountain hotel: we know the challenges involved. Great location, much potential, but managers, not staff, need replaced - especially in F&B!"
"The Gate House is not fully renovated and craftsmanship in the room is just as good as normal hotel. I don't know why would someone pay that much, looks like it's just a name. Fairmont ain't getting business from me anymore. Thanks"
"The pool and waterslide are cool. The rest is crap. Do better Pocaterra.
Staff are useless. No automatic doors anywhere so trying to lug a luggage cart into the building is a struggle. Staff just watched as I struggled to get through the doors. The room was freezing cold no matter how high we set the heat. We had to prop a wall of pillows along the side of the bed that is unfortunately right beside the blower because every time it kicked on, there was a cold wind blowing directly onto that bed. Yes, it was set to heat. But would blow cold air quite forcefully. The vent was so dusty and nasty looking, so this air was gross. Clean your equipment once in a while.
Water was SCALDING hot. My daughter sustained burns to her hands that I had to treat with cold compress, despite turning up hot water slow and gradually.
The mini fridge froze everything we had in there so I had to throw out all the fresh fruit and veggies and pop that I'd bought, which was super expensive in canmore. Huge waste of money.
I will not stay here again."
