"This was the last hotel of our travels around Japan and I am glad we saved it for last. For our family it was perfect and an amazing experience. We stayed in one of the villas which are a short walk from the main building. The villa was really quaint, with its own inside and outside bath. We enjoyed the food experience, as we were staying 2 nights we ate one night in this hotel and the other nigjt we got the shuttle bus to their sister hotel for the all you can eat buffet. The staff were all really friendly and helpful"

"The place was clean and has a washer/dryer. Beautiful bathroom with a hot spring water flowing in the tub. Huge apartment for the family. They are quit remote from any restaurants, we arrived late to the hotel and had to go out to find dinner, most of the restaurants there were closing by 8p. So we walked around tired and hungry and not finding any place to eat dinner, But found Lawson and grab some instant noodles to bring back to the apartment to eat, Had I known about the scarcity of dinning options, I would have just packed food to make there. There was a nice kitchen with all the amenities to make a meal. I would go back and bring food next time."

"No in person staff available at the hotel. Very inconvenient. You can’t leave your luggage at the hotel before 3:00PM. Great hotel with an amazing view but very expensive and not worth it"

"We really enjoyed our stay in Matsuzakaya Honten! The staff were very hospitable, accommodating and helpful, and the ryokan was very clean and modern, while still retaining its historical charm. We marveled at how it was like staying in a museum, a slice of history, just because of how beautifully preserved everything was. Special shoutout to Ridhan, Hema and the front desk staff (a friendly thai lady with front bangs - apologies, we didn’t manage to get your name!) who were excellent and kind to us throughout our stay."

"we adored Hata-San, our helpful friend at the hotel. the dinner and breakfast were both incredible. bathhouses were relaxing and clean. the Hakone day pass made it so easy to get everywhere but don’t forget to take time at the ryokan to re-center after travel!"
