"We loved our two night stay at the property. It was clean and luxurious and a highlight of our 19 day trip to Japan. The view of Mt Fuji across the lake was amazing. The private onsen that opened out to the deck was fantastic. We wish we could have stayed longer. Motohakone has very few restaurants and extremely quiet at night so plan to head to another local town if you want to head out for dinner."
"Our second visit, this time we travel with my daughter’s family and grandson. This is a few Onsen hotel that allows children to use their public onsen. He enjoyed this new experience and all of us have a great time to enjoy the facilities and fine Japanese dinner. Since this is my second visit, our family was offer free lounge access and late checkout. Something we did not expect. So thank you!"
"Matsuzakaya Honten was the highlight of our two-week trip to Japan.
The moment we entered our room, our jaws dropped. It was incredibly spacious, beautifully designed, and featured floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a lush green landscape. Our private onsen was peaceful, completely private, and surrounded by a beautiful garden. It was the perfect place to relax.
The kaiseki ryōri dinner and breakfast were absolutely unforgettable. Both were nine-course meals, with several courses featuring multiple beautifully presented dishes. Every course was a masterpiece and tasted just as incredible as it looked. We became so full during dinner that our wonderful waitress thoughtfully prepared our remaining dish as onigiri for us to enjoy later in our room. That small gesture meant so much to us.
The room deserves five stars. The food deserves five stars. But the service deserves even more.
We’ve stayed at many luxury hotels, yet the warmth, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality from every staff member surpassed them all. Everyone made us feel truly welcome and cared for throughout our stay.
If we return to Japan, Matsuzakaya Honten will be our first reservation. Thank you to the entire staff for creating memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime. ❤️"
"Superbe emplacement au bord du lac Ashi, avec une vue absolument magnifique. La chambre avec vue sur le lac est un vrai coup de cœur, un petit plus qui rend le séjour encore plus magique."
"I was wowed. To be honest, pictures don’t do this justice. It’s a place you can get lost in- in the most beautiful way possible. It is the most scenic stay I’ve experienced to date. It inspires poetry and deep thought. It was my brilliant oasis. Thank you! My only qualms were the food- it was bit underwhelming for the price point; however, the dining view, opulence and careful care from staff made up for it a bit."
"we adored Hata-San, our helpful friend at the hotel.
the dinner and breakfast were both incredible. bathhouses were relaxing and clean.
the Hakone day pass made it so easy to get everywhere but don’t forget to take time at the ryokan to re-center after travel!"
