"Beautiful historic hotel. Public areas are lovely. The room was a bit dated though, bashed and battered table tops and curtains falling down. The bathroom was also drab with little space to hang or put toiletries. No plugs by the bed so you have to charge your phone at the other side of the room, no bedside lamps. These small things mean I can’t give a five. Location is great, easy to walk into the centre and of course right on the sea front. Worth visiting for the history of the building I think but not really worth the very high prices anymore."

"Excellent modern and spacious apartments with everything you need to self cater in lovely green surroundings. Can be tricky to get there, so need a car really but it’s a very comfortable stay. The main hall/bar is beautiful, especially when they have piano player on at weekends. Value for money, especially silly with midweek stays and we have stayed many times now. Have tried a massage in the cabin next to the swimming pool which was nice but yet to try the swimming po - aiming to do that next time. Wonderful place for a bit of quiet time to yourselves. "

"Very clean room and the staff were great and very helpful without being intrusive. We had the continental breakfast which was great and plentiful choice. We used the spa daily, the pool was like stepping into a bath it was so warm and we enjoyed the sauna and steam room. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quiet relaxing break, we took the boat to Ambleside and back and the girls in the kiosk who were very informative and pleasant. The hotel is on flat land with lots of space for walking or sitting out and having drinks hot or cold. Suitable for those of us who have mobility problems. Two lifts are available but there is a bit of a journey to reach them as they are situated in the new part of the hotel but, can’t be helped as it would have ruined the grand style if they tried to pit them near the reception Parking outside is chargeable to a separate company. Blue badge holders can park free if a token is obtained from the hotel and all others must park 400 yards further away with a token but can unload in a space outside the hotel."
