This hotel is right next to Mamita's Beach Club, with the loudest (think 50,000 watt subwoofers) music in Playa del Carmen. On weekdays the music goes from about noon til 8pm, while Thursday-Saturday, it goes until about 1 or 2 AM. The bass penetrates the entire property and reverberates even louder inside the palapas / cabanas. Want to take a nap? Too bad. Sleep before 2 am on weekends will be difficult too.
The worst part of all this is that the hotel staff is completely dismissive of the issue, and took offense when I inquired about when the music would turn off, and laughed at me when I left 2 days into a 5 night stay for a more tranquil hotel.
Beware.
Its not one of those mega resorts , so the service is geared to you not the masses.
Great beach and staff, got caught off guard no TV, Clock or Radio in room.
Found out I can live without it..
We will be back..
nice staff, nice place, beautiful gardens and on the beach! Loved it.
Only complain is that their WIFI is very weak , could not use WIFI in room, had to go to places where we found hotspot. by walking around carrying our phone
Also no telephone in the rooms, so if we needed any thing , we had to walk to the main office. But overall we ware very happy with our stay. We really learned to relax without phone, TV or WIFI which is very important.
The hotel was better than we had expected and as soon as we stepped in, we loved it. Walking to the beach is about 3-5 mins, and to quinta avenida its about 5-7 mins. Excellent proximity. The food was also very nice too. My boyfriend is pretty creeped out by bugs so he was quite anxious with the whole jungle view cabana but we were okay. There will be bugs but rhey wont do any harm, and they have mosquito sprays in the bathroom too. My only complaint was that they didnt change/wash our beach towels for the whole week. The beach is not so much private as people are always walking from beach to beach and some people not from the hotel just pick a spot and settle there for the rest of the day, this goes for the whole big beach though not just this hotel.
We have been going to Las Palapas for 5 or 6 years, and this past February our experience was much different. Service at lunch was dramatically poor, and the service staff seemed hurried and often unable to keep up with demand. This may be a transitional problem as Las Palapas merges with an adjacent property. We feel we should give Las Palapas another try next year and see if 2015 was an aberration.
If you are looking for something different, this is the place. gorgeous setting in mangrove, yet steps to the beach. The renovated rooms are high end design meets rustic minimalist. Beds are super comfy. The landscape is just so peaceful. Stress melted the minute I got there. The beach is perfectly situated, with lots of chairs, tables, palapas umbrellas, great service... lunch can be eaten beach side.
Food: they try! We like Mayan cuisine, and they prepare things that would make a more timid visitor step outside their bounds (corn mold stuffed Calamari...yum!) But, there was some hit and miss, and we ended up eating in town most nights. Breakfast is good, solid.
Some would complain about Mamitas Beach Club's thumping music wafting through the air, but unless you are going to be in your room napping all day, it's nothing. Construction next door? Try finding one hotel in Play that doesn't have construction next to it at this point. asรญ es la vida!
They are doing their own renovations for the rest of the units May-Nov, so get there before or after.
The rooms are clean. We toured all of the rooms and the Jungle View Rooms are newer then the garden view and ocean view. It's also worth it to pay a few extra dollars to get a palapa roof. They stay cooler during the day and warmer at night. You might be visited by a few creates crossing your roof but they cant get in so dont be afraid. A few times an Iguana blocked the walkways trying to sun themselves but you can easily work around. The best part of this hotel is the food. All of our meals were great. We came here knowing that the rooms have no TV, wifi or phone. Thats what we wanted. There was a hairdryer in our room.
Had a great experience inside and outside our hotel room. Pleasantly located within walking distance from the beach and the city. Very accessible and the staff were so nice. The food was great at the hotel and the drinks were even better!
I highly recommend this hotel. Its in the heart of the action and yet hidden away from the main road. Special shout out to the staff. Every single member of staff (and there are lots of them) take care of you. They smile, chat and all say good morning. They get to know your name and they get to know exactly what you like. Food is pretty good. Not mind blowing but good. Rooms are clean and well cared for. Grounds are stunning and walking down to the beach was always so delightful. Complaints...well I have to think of something. The beach bar next door plays loud music from around noon to 6pm. Personally I loved the beat but some friends did not like it so much. Its only during these hours though so rest assured you will get a peaceful nights sleep. I will be going back here for sure.
As a solo lady traveller I could not have been looked after better. Keshi guides you to take the correct tour experiences to suit your individual needs. The food varied daily and was of a high quality. Ceviche and Bloody Mary were particularly enjoyed for beach lunches!!
Everything was great about our stay at Hotel Las Palapas!!! The friendliness of the staff and their attention to our needs or wants was unbelievable! The rooms were wonderful, the beach was fantastic, the food was wonderful and overall was one of the best places and vacations we have ever had. Highly recommend!!
NOISY ! Near a club ! Loud sound, windows vibratin
Terrible place when you would have expected to have a peaceful and quiet stay. Club music during the day and night coming from a beach club next door. Complain at reception and they will give you earplugs ! Do no stay here if you expect to have some sleep during the nights. If you want a quiet place to stay book further north or south of there !
For $400+ a night, it is not worth not sleeping !!!

Great family hotel
We have two kids age 4 and 7. They loved the hotel and its facilities. It felt safe and the staff was just so loving. There were a number of wild animals coming around, such as iguanas, racoons, and a variety of birds. The hotel is very nicely located right on the best beach in Playa, as well as a little walk away from the main shopping strip. The food was amazing, really quality versus quantity. Breakfast and dinner were outstanding! The hotel puts on some entertainment as well that was just fantastic, amazing musicians.
The hotel has a perfect location with a perfect beach. The Palapas were nice and the wait staff was excellent. The breakfast and lunch or dinner option is perfect for Playa del Carmen so you can venture out. The food at the hotel was overall very good, although took longer than expected at times.
They supply mosquito repellent in your room. You will need it. Maybe even something stronger. We were not sure what it was, but our children suffered from over 100 bites each and were very uncomfortable during the entire stay.
Otherwise our stay would have been close to perfect.

Nice concept overall but Mamita's is really noisy
We really liked the concept: charming "villas" in a gorgous garden, even if it need to be renovated (rooms and facilities). We visited a renovated room (jungle section). It will be really nice after the renovation of Las Palapas in 2015. Congratulations to designers. Mahekal next to Las Palapas is currently in renovation (open soon). It will be awsome: same concept and design but bigger. They merged. Note: noise of construction is not too bad, but began at 6:00AM. We had a villa in the sandy part on the 2nd floor and really enjoy it. Being in hammocks on the veranda = great experience. BEST beach in Playa Del Carmen. The site is a palms forest well maintain. Wow!
The food is OK, but nothing to remember, but eating on the beach was WOW! Special thanks to Carlo Ceasar, Carlos, Paula and Bolli. Everybody was nice.
The real issue is Mamita's. A beach club really disturbing. We read comments about it and the answer was that it was quiet during low season. We were in november and the music was really to extremely loud from 14:00 to 17:30 each day and from 22:00 to 3:00 for all WE. We were able to sleep with plugs and being so tired after a long walk on the 5th avenue. For sure, Las Palapas has no control on this, but it was a real issue for us. Rainy days were welcome = no music.
We would really like to go back, but we won't because of Mamita's. If noice bothers you, don't go there, but if you don't care, this is Paradise to discover.
Our staying at Las Palapas was great. We had upgraded to a beach front Palapa for free . But the most valuable asset of this hotel is their staff and of course one of the best beaches at Playa del Carmen. We had an amazing time .
