On returning to to hotel at around 21:00 in the evening and entering the room for the first time to see properly, my family and I were immediately swarmed by insects in the corridor that were on the walls and room door, so after entering the room at haste to avoid any critters to follow, we were in the room which was very dated and in need of an overhaul. “The rooms are beautifully presented and the amenities were really nice. For a travel stop it was very convenient and the staff are friendly. The carpets in the rooms are suffering from wear and tear and could do with a better clean. The rooms needs a bit more of a clean in general. The shower also started dripping in both rooms (which were at other ends of the property) at around 3am which woke us up. “Bed was comfortable and breakfast very nice. Negatives - no air con on a very hot day/night and shower problematic. Couldn’t avoid getting hair wet, shower head too high to adjust and no soap in dispenser. Otherwise all good.”

Major issue was after a night in a 30 degree room there was no water for a shower, or the toilet. “The staff in all areas could not have been more helpful. The hotel was spotlessly clean and well maintained. Th air conditioning was very welcome in the middle of a heat wave. The bed was very comfortable. We would happily stay here again.”

No one collecting glasses or emptying an ash tray. Asked for a coffee in the morning and waited 15 minutes.. got up to ask where it was "oh i couldn't find you" yeah because you were in the kitchen flirting with the chef.. Could be such a wonderful place, if the staff weren't recreating Fawlty Towers”

“The positives were the airy room and lovely garden. The big negative was the buffet breakfast which they proudly claim to be award-winning. The reality is that for a 4 star hotel, the quality and range of options was extremely poor. Too many short cuts and cost cutting. The veggie options were limitd and not displayed on the tables and there were no extras (eg crushed avocado) even if you were willing to pay a bit extra. There was no fruit yogurt in individual pots and no higher quality healthy...

“My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Chequers. The hotel is clean, well kept and convenient for all local amenities. The staff were very professional and polite and happy to help at every turn. Highlight for me, apart from the location, was the plentiful parking available and the breakfast was delightful and incredibly good value for money. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and highly recommended.”

“Very pretty property, with a great view. A little distance from the city center, but they run a most friendly and flexible shuttle into town that works great, very good idea and a very commendable effort. Breakfast is good. We had a large room (2 adults 2 kids) very spacious. Some aspects of maintenance could be improved, but it is always a challenge with these country homes, they have the charm, but not everything is impecable. A little on the expensive side, but reasonable. Great parking.”
