“We were warmly welcomed by the staff on arrival and when they showed us up to the room we fell instantly in love with the sea view. The room was very clean and in good shape. What’s more, we ate in the restaurant and the food was fresh, locally sourced and also great value for money when compared to other local options.”

“We were very pleasantly surprised to learn our 1 room family suite had 2 separate bedrooms. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Only issues were that we only had 1 key which made it tricky every time we went separate places. Also there was an illuminated exit sign in the king bedroom we had to cover up it was so bright, and when others shut their doors it would thump ours. Loved the skylights, was a bit stuffy but those helped. Loved the breakfast!”

“Perfect place to stay in the quiet and laid back village of Dounby as it is close to a lot of archeological sites which are about 10 to 20 minutes away in every direction. Very friendly and attentive staff. Great food as well. Spacious parking in the back. There is a gas station and a market across the street so you don’t have to worry about driving too far to refuel and get food. This place will be my go-to the next time I travel to Orkney Islands!”

“Come and enjoy proper hospitality in a proper hotel with wonderful people. Just like it used to be before life was overtaken by digital awfulness. If you want room service ordered through your TV then stay away. Sensational breakfast (that can also serve as lunch and beyond). Our second visit since 2022, the hotel holds a special place in our lives.”

“We loved the tour of the facility and our room. Help with parking was so useful for ease of getting out of the lot. My wife needed medicine kept cold and ice packs frozen and had no issues having this done for us. Because we were leaving before breakfast a to go meal was provided for us.”

“The Ferry Inn is delightful. The place is only bettered by the amazing family that runs it. Home away from home… excellent food, well appointed rooms and sparkling clean … we will be back!”

“We were very lucky because both times we parked at the hotel, we got one of the 2 slots in front of the hotel, so we didn't have to try and find the additional parking lot, but the staff did give us a map to find it. Keep in mind that there is no lift, so depending on your floor you need to carry your bags up. The 23kg bag was not much fun to take up and then down 2 flights of stairs. The food for breakfast was very good whether the cereal/yogurt/fruit or the from the menu. The staff in the...

“Unique house, beautiful room, nice breakfast”

“Most of the rooms have been remodeled so it feels like a new hotel in a classic older Scottish building. Great owners, great service.”

“Was welcomed and checked in. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Went into Kirkwall for a meal, approx 10-15 minute walk. (Supermarkets are quite nearby also) Lovely breakfast after a comfortable nights sleep Thank you 👍”

“The host was very friendly and helpful. She served a good breakfast in the morning at our chosen time. The place is not found easily and needs an entrance sign. Overall I would stay there again.”
