Terrible experience with front desk person Mauricio regarding our room. Unable to change our room even though he said they would try the next day .lied and chanced his story so we asked to speak to manager . The room smelled like mold and all they did was spray air freshner . The manger Rogerlio was useless at acknowledging our issues and complaints . We were stuck in the moldy room for 4 nights . Declined to refund us our money to go elsewhere . My sister had health issues and it made her cough non stop . The food was hit and miss . The dinner at Bloved was awful too salty and well done steak was red and raw. Buffet food was hot and miss . . Never go back

We didn't get the room we reserved, no sleepers, no robe, no upgrade was offered. The staff was fantastisc in all restaurants and around the hotel. The wild life is kept free and in great condition, very nice having them around.

Catalonia Playa Maroma – Honest Review (Playa Maroma, Riviera Maya, Mexico) Stay: December 19–24, 2025 Room Type: Premium Room Group: 5 adults and 1 toddler (3 years old) This is a very beautiful resort in a lush rainforest setting, but Americans should understand exactly what they’re getting before booking. Location & Scenery: The rainforest environment is absolutely stunning and was the biggest positive surprise. The property feels very tropical, with lush greenery everywhere. We saw animals occasionally running around, which added to the experience. For anyone concerned, the animals keep their distance and are not a problem at all. Pools & Common Areas: The pool is excellent—large, clean, and well maintained. Some areas are close to 8 feet deep, which is great for adults but something to be aware of if you have small children. Common areas were consistently clean and well cared for. Housekeeping & Room Comfort: Housekeeping was excellent and came every day like clockwork. Rooms were cleaned thoroughly and quickly. Beds were comfortable. The AC and ceiling fans worked very well and kept the room cool at all times. Walls are somewhat thin, but noise was manageable overall. Food & Drinks (Biggest Weakness): The food is where this resort falls short for Americans. The buffet was very disappointing—bland overall and heavily focused on pork. If you’re used to American-style poolside food like burgers, wings, chicken nuggets, or hot dogs, you will not find much of that her

Todo nos gusto mucho, empezando por los alimentos. Los servicios en general fueron excelentes, y el personal muy amable, 10 de 10. Me parece importante mencionar que no abundan los mexicanos, pero, para los que quizá estén interesados en el hotel, hay un excelente ambiente. Lo único que pediría es que sean más claros en su publicación con los servicios que son exclusivos para los socios "Exclusive". Por último, no lo recomiendo para personas que no les gusta convivir con la naturaleza, el diseño del hotel me pareció interesante por lo abundante que es la vegetación. Además, es buena opción si quieres alejarte de la zona hotelera. Justo como alguien nos menciono, es agradable ver la vegetación y no tanto edificio acaparando la vista.

Rooms was spotless clean. Room in the building #3 was super noisy 8am to 10pm because of a construction nearby. It was hard to stay in the room for relax or work during the daytime. My advice is to bring a spray against insects(mosquitoes), and afterbite medication. Staff is great, helpful and nice, no problem at all.

Lots of coatis, always hungry, remind racoons

One big pool with shallow, comfortable medium, and deep parts. Pool bar is awesome. Best mudslide cocktail.

The hotel needs to bring back the food trailers!!! One of the best parts of hanging out at the pool and beach is now gone.

We have been there two years ago and it was amazing that’s why we decided to go back again. This time was a disaster. Food was below average. It was the same thing every day. Room smelled like sewer no matter if you left AC on or windows open all day/night. The only good thing left on this place was the beach. Definitely not going back to this place anymore.

This is the worst all inclusive I’ve had stayed in. From the day of check in to last day we were unsatisfied. We had to move to three different rooms because of mold smells and room maintenance. They promised they would do something for my daughter’s birthday and never did it! No activities and very limited food. Worst hotel ever.

This was our third time at Playa Maroma. A quiet smallish resort with great food .We love the authentic Mexican vibe and the jungle setting. Lots of wonderful seating areas though our the complex.Great coffee shop. Lots of wild life viewing. Even got to see monkeys this time around. The only con was the misleading phone call saying that since we were repeat customers they wanted to give us complimentary massages etc. Turns out it was just a pitch for a modern twist on time share type privileges. No complimentary gifts once we turned down the pitch. Not impressed.

The hotels grounds, and many of the service staff are quite nice. That’s where it ends. All of the infrastructure, from the buildings to AC and even plumbing, seems to be failing quite miserably. This place may have been nice 10+ years ago, but i would not recommend coming here now. Front desk staff are not very helpful, you really have to complain and create a bit of a scene to get even a simple thing like for instance the lock on our door fixed, or an option to move rooms when ours would not go below 30 degrees. Our experience wasn’t isolated as we heard story after story about people’s bad experiences.

Wonderful hotel! We had a great time there with the kids! What a beautiful shore and beach! Gorgeous pool! Excellent Wi-Fi speed throughout the hotel, on the beach, and in the room. Friendly staff! Great choice of restaurants! Service, cleanliness, comfort! We really liked this hotel, I recommend it!

We had a wonderful week at this resort! Don't pay attention to any bad reviews! Those guests must be crabby! This resort has a great feel... beautiful lobby, cozy sitting places sprinkled around the resort, manicured spaces, impecably clean throughout. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. We are beach people and got to know Paola, the server in the privilege section, really well! She was so nice! Emilio, the recently hired beach/pool manager was also the best! The food was DELISH at each restaurant. The best we've had at all of the resorts we've been to. We made the required reservations at the beginning of our stay for the whole week. Worked out seemlessly. We would jump at the chance to return to this resort! Highly recommend!!

Great resort in jungle setting but along a very nice beach. Lots of beach loungers around pool and at beach. Never any line ups for buffet restaurant and reservations for other restaurants were easy to book. Food was good and lots of variety at Buffet. Stayed in Privileged category which is in the buildings closer to the pool and beach, and gives exclusive access to a certain area of the beach with lu gets and daybeds (free) and the beachfront Beloved restaurant, which is al la carte for all meals (it was fine but we only ate there once and preferred the Buffet restaurant). The check in desk and main buffet are a fairly long walk away from the pool and beach (about 400 metres with the 6 buildings with rooms along the path) so there can be a lot of walking. Dedicated coffee shop on site was great and had wide assortment of hot and cold drinks and many desserts. Our room was not one of the renovated rooms but it was clean and spacious. The AC unit was fairly loud but kept the room nice and cool at night. Lots of Coatis roaming around and saw one monkey. All staff were very pleasant and attentive. We would stay here again but would book a renovated room next time (they had none available to upgrade to when we stayed).
