This was an absolute gem for me. I was prepared to stay anywhere in the city and when I found an affordable spot near a transportation hub (five minute walk from the Civic Center BART stop), I was booking it, even if not expecting it to be nice at all. But clearly, they’ve done a wonderful job renovating the space and the room and adjacent bathrooms were immaculate, and even stocked with an iron and coffee maker. The staff were lovely people.
The area had been a rough area and is not far from remaining rough areas, but Twitter and Uber headquarters are now within a block or two from Ram’s Hotel, and with that comes new amenities, like the Market on Market, which is the most perfect clone of a Whole Foods Market I’ve ever seen. Of course, that market is fairly expensive, but it’s a three minute walk from your room at Ram’s Hotel.
The only two things I would change about Ram’s Hotel would be the sign (it doesn’t hint how nice this place really is), and I would make it so that rather than buzzing the front desk to enter the building, the room key could open the front door.
Regardless, I will be staying there again the next time I visit SF.
