"Mixed stay — some real positives but a few issues that don't match a five-star rating. The room itself was clean, but one of the blinds was broken and couldn't be lowered. The air conditioning was stuck on very cold no matter how we adjusted the temperature, so we ended up turning it off completely. The carpet also had loads of stain just before you enter the room which felt out of place for this rating of hotel.
More concerning: housekeeping took a jar of M&Ms from our room and then charged us for it — we had to report this directly. There's also no ice machine on the guest floors; you have to call the bar and wait for them to bring ice up.
The biggest letdown was the resort fee, charged on top of the city tax, which wasn't disclosed at booking. It came as an unwelcome surprise at checkout — something I haven't experienced at comparable hotels.
Finally, the pool had an overwhelmingly strong chlorine smell, strong enough to sting the eyes on one occasion. The spa is right next to the pool, so that smell carries in there too.
Overall: clean room and decent stay, but the hidden charges, AC issue, and pool chlorine let it down for a five-star property."
