Old Town Vibe

10/10 Excellent

"The room and bathroom were both very attractive and well-appointed. A small balcony looking out over the square was just large enough for two to sit out and enjoy the sun. Only warning would be for anyone with mobility issues as the internal staircase is a spiral one and not really made with suitcases in mind. My wife and I are 62 and 60 and we were fine. The square itself was very busy, but we liked that. Three restaurants below us, one especially lively where we ate most nights. Lots of shops within 100 yards including a pharmacy, which we needed, and a delightful gelato parlour called Gentile, opposite the castle. Owner was responsive to calls and kind with his advice. Two guests staying for five nights, we could have used a few extra team-bags. I realise It is a courtesy to find a kettle and some tea and coffee in the room, but when the room is not being made up daily, as it would be in a hotel, it's probably worth providing a bit more for our convenience. The room and location are superb, as long as you're both fit and mobile."

"Delayed check in because they couldnt understand an abbreviation of a full name, and held us hotage until the tourist tax was paid. On entry, we were hit by a thick, unremitting stench of damp and mould. Further inspection revealed large patches of black, pink and white mould in multiple locations. Informed the host who said they'd resolve it and get us a new place. Two hours later, nothing. Eventually told us there was no other place. Went back to the flat to find two women pretending to clean. Very keen to tell me it "wasn't mould", which it definitely was. Forced to stay for two days in a stinking cellar. We now all have sore throats and feel unwell. Also the fridge defrosted itself on the floor, not for the first time, it appears from the cabinet door frame. One toilet roll and one coffee.pos for the whole two day stay. Towels were not changed and we had to mop the floor with the to deal with the broken fridge. The host acknowledged our concerns, and then did absolutely nothing about them, and refused to refund us, stating that black mould is a feature, not a bug, in old damp cellar conversions. We visited multiple similar buildings in the old town, and none had black mould or an over earing smell. A disaster with no resolution, as yet..."

"The staff were extremely helpful. The room was comfortable and quite large (got family room). We were a bit hot night as the ac didn’t appear to work or work well. The breakfast was good. The location was excellent with plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops, etc in walking distance and the area was safe. I would personally skip dinner at the hotel restaurant (which I don’t think was really part of the hotel). The ambiance was good and the staff friendly. However, the food was not very good, very small portions and took forever to arrive. We did not complain, finished our meal, paid the bill, and went to get pizza afterwards which was awesome."

"This place is nice, and walkable, for all the bari vieja, the owner was so kind to let us in early, we enjoy every moment, Anna was so nice , she is the lovely lady who let us in. and even kept our luggage for 2 days, Thanks Anna.! just to let people know there are 25 steps for the room if you can't use stairs, keep this in mind. Thank you Antonino , hope you like the wine."

"The hotel was clean and the restaurant was far better food than we expected for a hotel. Staff wasn't understanding of our need to find tourist shopping and sent us downtown. Bari is a large city and traffic, parking and overall Italy experience were not great because it is a large city. Great place to stay for our last night in Italy, and near the airport with a shuttle service that was fabulous. Pool and hot tub were great. all in all a nice experience."
